C. |The type of Israel10:1-13
1. |Baptized unto Moses — vv.|1-2
1|Cor.|10:1|-||1|For I do not want you to be |2a|ignorant, brothers, that |3|all our fathers were under the |4b|cloud, and all passed through the |c|sea;
1|Cor.|10:2|-|And all were |1a|baptized |2|unto Moses |3|in the cloud and in the sea;
2. |Eating the same spiritual food and drinking the same spiritual drink — vv.|3-4
1|Cor.|10:3|-|And all ate the same |1|spiritual |a|food,
1|Cor.|10:4|-|And all drank the same |1|spiritual |a|drink; for they drank of a |2|spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ.
3. |Most of them strewn along in the wilderness — vv.|5-13
1|Cor.|10:5|-|But with most of them God was not well pleased, for they were |1a|strewn along in the wilderness.
1|Cor.|10:6|-|Now these things occurred as |1a|examples to |2|us, that we should not be ones who lust after evil things, even as they also |b|lusted.
1|Cor.|10:7|-|Neither become |1a|idolaters, as |b|some of them did; as it is written, |c|“The people sat down to |1|eat and drink, and stood up to |d|play.”
1|Cor.|10:8|-|Neither let us commit |1a|fornication, as some of them |b|committed fornication, and there |2|fell in one day |c|twenty-three thousand.
1|Cor.|10:9|-|Neither let us |1a|test Christ, as some of them |b|tested Him and were destroyed by the |c|serpents.
1|Cor.|10:10|-|Neither |1a|murmur, just as some of them |b|murmured and |c|perished by the |2|destroyer.
1|Cor.|10:11|-|Now these things |1|happened to them as an |a|example, and they were |b|written for our admonition, unto whom the |2|ends of the ages |3|have come.
1|Cor.|10:12|-||1|So then let him who |a|thinks he |b|stands take heed lest he |2|fall.
1|Cor.|10:13|-||1|No |2|temptation has taken you except |3|that which is common to man; and God is |a|faithful, who will not allow that you be |4b|tempted beyond what you are able, but will, with the |2|temptation, also make the way out, that you may be able to |c|endure it.
D. |Keeping the Lord's table from idolatry10:14-22
1. |The fellowship of the Lord's blood and body — vv.|14-18
1|Cor.|10:14|-||1|Therefore, my beloved, flee from |2a|idolatry.
1|Cor.|10:15|-|I speak as to prudent men; you |a|judge what I say.
1|Cor.|10:16|-|The |a|cup of blessing which we |b|bless, is it not the |1|fellowship of the |c|blood of Christ? The |d|bread which we break, is it not the |1|fellowship of the |e|body of Christ?
1|Cor.|10:17|-|Seeing that there is |1|one bread, we who are many are |a|one Body; for we all |2|partake of the one bread.
1|Cor.|10:18|-|Look at Israel |a|according to the flesh. Are not those who |b|eat the sacrifices those who |1|have fellowship with the |2c|altar?
2. |The separation of the Lord's table from the demons' table — vv.|19-22
1|Cor.|10:19|-|What then am I saying? That what is |a|sacrificed to an idol is anything? Or that an idol is anything?
1|Cor.|10:20|-|No, but that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to |1a|demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become |2b|those who have fellowship with demons.
1|Cor.|10:21|-|You cannot |1|drink the Lord’s |a|cup and the demons’ cup; you cannot partake of the Lord’s |b|table and of the |c|demons’ table.
1|Cor.|10:22|-|Or do we |1a|provoke the Lord to |b|jealousy? Are we |c|stronger than He?
E. |The proper eating10:23-11:1
1. |Building up others, seeking their advantage10:23-30, 32-33
1|Cor.|10:23|-||1a|All things are |2|lawful, but not all things are |3|profitable; all things are |2|lawful, but not all things |4b|build up.
1|Cor.|10:24|-|Let no one |a|seek his own profit, but that of the other.
1|Cor.|10:25|-|Everything sold in a |1|meat market |a|eat, asking no questions for |b|conscience’ sake;
1|Cor.|10:26|-|For the |a|earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.
1|Cor.|10:27|-|If any of the unbelievers invites you and you wish to go, |a|eat everything that is set before you, asking no question for |b|conscience’ sake.
1|Cor.|10:28|-|But if anyone says to you, This has been offered in sacrifice, do |a|not eat, for his sake who pointed it out and for |b|conscience’ sake.
1|Cor.|10:29|-|Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s. For why is my |a|freedom judged by some other conscience?
1|Cor.|10:30|-|If I |1|partake with |a|thankfulness, why am I spoken |b|evil of concerning that for which I give thanks?
2. |To the glory of God10:31
1|Cor.|10:31|-||1|Therefore |2|whether you |a|eat or drink, or |b|whatever you do, do all to the |c|glory of God.
1. |Building up others, seeking their advantage (cont'd)10:32-33
1|Cor.|10:32|-||1|Do not become a |a|stumbling block, both to |2|Jews and to Greeks and to the |b|church of God;
1|Cor.|10:33|-|Even as |1|I also |a|please |b|all men in all things, not |c|seeking my own advantage but that of the many, that they may be |d|saved.
