1|Cor.|14:1|-||1a|Pursue |b|love, and |2c|desire earnestly |d|spiritual gifts, but especially that you may |3e|prophesy.
1|Cor.|14:2|-||1|For he who speaks in a |a|tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one hears, but in his |b|spirit he speaks |c|mysteries.
1|Cor.|14:3|-|But he who prophesies speaks |1a|building up and encouragement and consolation to men.
1|Cor.|14:4|-|He who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but he who prophesies |1a|builds up the |b|church.
1|Cor.|14:5|-|I desire that you all speak in tongues, but especially that you would |a|prophesy; and |b|greater is he who prophesies than he who speaks in tongues, unless he |c|interprets, that the church may receive building up.
1|Cor.|14:6|-|But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in |a|tongues, what will I |b|profit you, unless I speak to you either in |c|revelation or in |d|knowledge or in |e|prophecy or in |f|teaching?
1|Cor.|14:7|-|Yet even |1|lifeless things, whether flute or harp, in giving a sound, if they give |2|no distinction in the tones, how will what is played on the flute or on the harp be known?
1|Cor.|14:8|-|For also if the |a|trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for |b|battle?
1|Cor.|14:9|-|So also you, unless you give with the tongue a word easy to understand, how will what is being said be known? For you will be speaking into the |a|air.
1|Cor.|14:10|-|There are perhaps many kinds of |1|voices in the world, and not one is |2|without significance.
1|Cor.|14:11|-|If then I do not know the |1|meaning of the voice, I will be to him who is speaking a |2|barbarian, and he who is speaking a |2a|barbarian to me.
1|Cor.|14:12|-|So also you, since you are zealous of |1a|spirits, seek that you may |2|excel for the |3b|building up of the church.
1|Cor.|14:13|-|Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may |a|interpret.
1|Cor.|14:14|-|For if I pray in a tongue, my |1a|spirit prays, but my |1b|mind is unfruitful.
1|Cor.|14:15|-|What then? I will pray with the |a|spirit, and I will pray |1|also |2|with the mind; I will |b|sing with the spirit, and I will |c|sing |1|also |2|with the mind.
1|Cor.|14:16|-|Otherwise if you |a|bless with the spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the |1|unlearned in tongues say the |2b|Amen at your giving of |c|thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?
1|Cor.|14:17|-|For you give thanks well, but the other is not |1a|built up.
1|Cor.|14:18|-|I thank God, I speak in tongues more than all of you,
1|Cor.|14:19|-|But in the church I would rather |a|speak |1|five words |2|with my mind, that I might instruct others also, than |1|ten thousand words in a tongue.
1|Cor.|14:20|-|Brothers, do not be |1a|children in your |2|understanding, but in |b|malice be |c|babes and in your |2|understanding be |3d|full-grown.
1|Cor.|14:21|-|In the |1a|law it is written, |2b|“By those of other tongues and with the lips of others I will speak to this people; even so they will not listen to Me, says the Lord.”
1|Cor.|14:22|-|So then tongues are for a |1|sign, not to those who believe but to the unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign not to the unbelievers but to those who believe.
1|Cor.|14:23|-|If therefore the whole church |a|comes together in one place, and |1|all speak in tongues, and some unlearned in tongues or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are |2b|insane?
1|Cor.|14:24|-|But if |1a|all prophesy and some unbeliever or unlearned person enters, he is |2|convicted by all, he is |2|examined by all;
1|Cor.|14:25|-|The secrets of his |a|heart become manifest; and so |b|falling on his face, he will worship |1|God, declaring that indeed |1|God is |c|among you.
1|Cor.|14:26|-|What then, brothers? Whenever you |a|come together, each one |1|has a |b|psalm, has a |c|teaching, has a |d|revelation, has a |e|tongue, has an |f|interpretation. Let all things be done for |2g|building up.
1|Cor.|14:27|-|If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by |a|two, or at the most three, and in turn, and one should interpret;
1|Cor.|14:28|-|But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent |a|in the |1|church, and speak to himself and to God.
1|Cor.|14:29|-|And as to prophets, |a|two or three should speak, and the others |1b|discern.
1|Cor.|14:30|-|But if something is revealed to another sitting by, the first should be silent.
1|Cor.|14:31|-|For |1|you can |a|all prophesy one by one that all may learn and all may be |2|encouraged.
1|Cor.|14:32|-|And the |1a|spirits of prophets are |b|subject to prophets;
1|Cor.|14:33a|-|For God is not a God of |a|confusion but of |1|peace.|2|
1|Cor.|14:33b|-|As in |b|all the |3|churches of the |c|saints,
1|Cor.|14:34|-|The |a|women should be silent |1b|in the churches, for they are not permitted to |2|speak; but they should be |c|subject, even as the |3d|law also says.
1|Cor.|14:35|-|But if they desire to learn anything, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
1|Cor.|14:36|-|Or was it from you that the word of God went forth? Or |1|did it reach only to you?
1|Cor.|14:37|-|If anyone thinks he is a |1a|prophet or |b|spiritual, let him fully know the things which I write to you, that they are the |2c|commandment of the Lord.
1|Cor.|14:38|-|But if anyone |a|ignores this, let him ignore it.
1|Cor.|14:39|-|So then, my brothers, |1a|desire earnestly the |b|prophesying, and |1|do not forbid the speaking in tongues.
1|Cor.|14:40|-|But all things must be done |1|becomingly and in |1a|order.
