XI. |Dealing with the matter of resurrection15:1-58

A. |Christ's resurrection — vv.|1-11
1. |Preached — vv.|1-4
1|Cor.|15:1|-|Now I make known to you, brothers, the |1a|gospel which I announced to you, which also you received, in which also you |2b|stand,
1|Cor.|15:2|-|Through which also you are |1|being |a|saved, if you |b|hold fast the word which I announced to you as the gospel, unless you have believed |c|in vain.
1|Cor.|15:3|-|For I delivered to you, first of all, that which also I |a|received, that |1|Christ |b|died for our |c|sins according to the |2d|Scriptures;
1|Cor.|15:4|-|And that He was |a|buried, and that He has been |b|raised on the |c|third day according to the |d|Scriptures;
2. |Witnessed — vv.|5-11
1|Cor.|15:5|-|And that He |1|appeared to |a|Cephas, then to the |b|twelve;
1|Cor.|15:6|-|Then He appeared to over five hundred brothers at one time, of whom the majority remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
1|Cor.|15:7|-|Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;
1|Cor.|15:8|-|And last of all He appeared to |a|me also, as it were to one born prematurely.
1|Cor.|15:9|-|For I am the |a|least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I |b|persecuted the |c|church of God.
1|Cor.|15:10|-|But by the |1a|grace of God I am what I am; and His |b|grace unto me did not turn out to be |c|in vain, but, on the contrary, I |d|labored more abundantly than all of them, yet |2|not I but the grace of God which is with me.
1|Cor.|15:11|-|Therefore whether it is I or they, so we preach and so you have believed.
B. |The rebuttal to "No resurrection" — vv.|12-19
1|Cor.|15:12|-|But if Christ is proclaimed that He has been |a|raised from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is |1|no resurrection of the dead?
1|Cor.|15:13|-|But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised.
1|Cor.|15:14|-|And if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is |1a|vain; your faith is |1b|vain also.
1|Cor.|15:15|-|And also we are found to be false witnesses of God because we have testified concerning God that He |a|raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if indeed the dead are not raised.
1|Cor.|15:16|-|For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised.
1|Cor.|15:17|-|And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is |1|futile; you are |2|still in your |a|sins.
1|Cor.|15:18|-|Then also those who have |1a|fallen asleep in Christ have |2|perished.
1|Cor.|15:19|-|If it is |1|only that we have |a|hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most miserable.
C. |The history of resurrection — vv.|20-28
1|Cor.|15:20|-||1|But now Christ has been |a|raised from the dead, the |2b|firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
1|Cor.|15:21|-|For since through |1a|man came death, through |2b|man also came the |c|resurrection of the dead.
1|Cor.|15:22|-|For just as in |a|Adam all |1|die, so also in |b|Christ all will be |2c|made alive.
1|Cor.|15:23|-|But each one in his own order: the |1a|firstfruits, Christ; then |2b|those who are Christ’s at His |c|coming;
1|Cor.|15:24|-|Then the |1|end, |2|when He |3|delivers up the |a|kingdom to His God and Father, |2|once He has abolished all |b|rule and all authority and power.
1|Cor.|15:25|-|For He must |1a|reign until God |b|puts all His enemies under His feet.
1|Cor.|15:26|-||a|Death, the last enemy, is |1|being abolished.
1|Cor.|15:27|-|For |1|He has |a|subjected all things under |2|His feet. But when |1|He says that all things are subjected, it is evident that all things are except |1|Him who has subjected all things to |2|Him.
1|Cor.|15:28|-|And when all things have been |a|subjected to |1|Him, then the |2|Son Himself also will be subjected to |3|Him who has subjected all things to |1|Him, that |b|God may be |4c|all in all.
D. |The moral influence of resurrection — vv.|29-34
1|Cor.|15:29|-||1|Otherwise what shall they who are |2|baptized for the dead do? If the dead are actually |a|not raised, why then are they baptized for them?
1|Cor.|15:30|-|Why also do we brave |a|danger every hour?
1|Cor.|15:31|-|I protest by the |1a|boasting in you, brothers, which I have |2|in Christ Jesus our Lord, I |1b|die daily.
1|Cor.|15:32|-|If |1|after the manner of men I fought with |2|wild beasts at |a|Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are |b|not raised, |3|let us |c|eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.
1|Cor.|15:33|-|Do not be |a|deceived: |1|Evil |2b|companionships |c|corrupt good morals.
1|Cor.|15:34|-||1a|Awake from the drunken stupor righteously and do not sin, for some of you |2|are |b|ignorant of God. I speak to your |c|shame.
E. |The definition of resurrection — vv.|35-49
1. |The body of resurrection — vv.|35-44
1|Cor.|15:35|-|But someone will say, How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?
1|Cor.|15:36|-|Foolish man, |1|what you sow is not made alive unless it |a|dies;
1|Cor.|15:37|-|And what you sow, you do not sow the body that will be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of some other of the rest.
1|Cor.|15:38|-|But God gives it a |1|body even as He willed, and to each of the seeds its own |1|body.
1|Cor.|15:39|-||1|All |a|flesh is not the same flesh, but one is of |b|men, and another flesh is of |c|cattle, and another is of |d|birds, and another is of fish.
1|Cor.|15:40|-|There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies; but the glory of the heavenly is one thing, and that of the earthly is another.
1|Cor.|15:41|-|There is another glory of the |a|sun, and another glory of the |b|moon, and another glory of the |c|stars; for star differs from star in glory.
1|Cor.|15:42|-|So |a|also is the |b|resurrection of the dead. It is sown in |c|corruption, it is |d|raised in incorruption;
1|Cor.|15:43|-|It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in |a|glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
1|Cor.|15:44|-|It is sown a |1a|soulish body, it is raised a |1b|spiritual |c|body. If there is a soulish body, there is also a spiritual one.
2. |A spiritual body — vv.|45-49
1|Cor.|15:45|-|So also it is written, “The first man, |a|Adam, became a |b|living |1|soul”; the last Adam became a |c|life-giving |1|Spirit.
1|Cor.|15:46|-|But |1|the spiritual is not first but |2|the soulish, then the spiritual:
1|Cor.|15:47|-|The first man is |1|out of the |a|earth, earthy; the |2|second man is |3|out of |b|heaven.
1|Cor.|15:48|-|As |1|the earthy is, such are |2|they also that are earthy; and as |3|the heavenly is, such are |4|they also that are |a|heavenly.
1|Cor.|15:49|-|And even as we have borne the |1a|image of the earthy, we will also bear the |1b|image of the heavenly.
F. |The victory of resurrection — vv.|50-58
1. |Incorruption over corruption — vv.|50-53
1|Cor.|15:50|-|Now this I say, brothers, that |1a|flesh and blood cannot inherit the |b|kingdom of God, neither does |c|corruption inherit |d|incorruption.
1|Cor.|15:51|-|Behold, I tell you |a|a |1|mystery: We will not all |2b|sleep, but we will all be |3c|changed,
1|Cor.|15:52|-|In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the |1|last |a|trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the |2|dead will be |b|raised incorruptible, and |3|we will be changed.
1|Cor.|15:53|-|For |1|this |a|corruptible must put on incorruption, and |1|this |b|mortal must put on immortality.
2. |Life over death — vv.|54-57
1|Cor.|15:54|-|And |1|when this corruptible will put on incorruption and this mortal will put on immortality, then the word which is written will come to pass, |a|“Death has been |b|swallowed up |2|unto |3c|victory.”
1|Cor.|15:55|-||1|Where, |a|O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your |b|sting?
1|Cor.|15:56|-|The |1|sting of |a|death is sin, and the |2|power of |b|sin is the |c|law.
1|Cor.|15:57|-|But |a|thanks be to God who gives us the |1b|victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
3. |A motive for the work of the Lordv.|58
1|Cor.|15:58|-|Therefore, my beloved brothers, be |1a|steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the |2b|work of the Lord, knowing that your |3c|labor is not |d|in vain in the Lord.
