VII. |Dealing with the eating of things sacrificed to idols8:1-11:1

A. |An inadvisable eating8:1-13
1. |Not according to love, which builds up — vv.|1-3
1|Cor.|8:1|-|Now concerning |1|things sacrificed to |a|idols, we |2|know that we all have |3b|knowledge. |4|Knowledge |c|puffs up, but |4d|love |5e|builds up.
1|Cor.|8:2|-|If anyone |a|thinks that he |1|knows anything, he has |b|not yet come to |1|know as he ought to |1|know;
1|Cor.|8:3|-|But if anyone |1a|loves God, this one is |b|known by Him.
2. |Idols being nothing — vv.|4-7
1|Cor.|8:4|-|Therefore concerning the eating of things |a|sacrificed to idols, we |1|know that an |b|idol is |c|nothing in the world and that there is no God but |d|one.
1|Cor.|8:5|-|For even if there are so-called |a|gods, either in heaven or on earth, even as there are many gods and many lords,
1|Cor.|8:6|-|Yet to |1|us there is |2a|one God, the |3b|Father, |4|out from whom are |c|all things, and we are |4|unto Him; and |5d|one Lord, |6|Jesus Christ, |4e|through whom are all things, and we are |4|through Him.
1|Cor.|8:7|-|But |a|this knowledge is not in all men; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, |b|eat the food as an |c|idol sacrifice, and their |1d|conscience, being weak, is |2|defiled.
3. |Food not commending us to Godv.|8
1|Cor.|8:8|-|But |a|food will not commend us to God; neither if we do not eat are we lacking, nor if we eat do we |1|abound.
4. |Stumbling weak brothers — vv.|9-13
1|Cor.|8:9|-|But beware lest somehow this |1|right of yours become a |a|stumbling block to the |2b|weak ones.
1|Cor.|8:10|-|For if anyone sees you who have |a|knowledge reclining at table in an |b|idol temple, will not his |c|conscience, if he is weak, be |1|emboldened to eat the things |d|sacrificed to the idols?
1|Cor.|8:11|-|For the one who is |a|weak is being |1b|destroyed by your |c|knowledge, the brother because of whom Christ |d|died.
1|Cor.|8:12|-|And sinning in this way against the brothers and |1|wounding their weak |a|conscience, you sin against Christ.
1|Cor.|8:13|-|Therefore if food |1a|stumbles my brother, I shall by no means eat |2|meat forever, that I may not |1|stumble my brother.
