1|John|5:1|-|Everyone who |1a|believes that |b|Jesus is the Christ has been begotten of God, and everyone who |c|loves Him who has |d|begotten |e|loves him also who has been begotten of Him.
1|John|5:2|-|In this we |a|know that we love the |b|children of God, when we |1|love God and |2|do His |c|commandments.
1|John|5:3|-|For this is the |1|love of God, that we |2a|keep His commandments; and His commandments are not |3b|burdensome.
C. |To overcome the world, death, sin, the devil, and idols5:4-21
1. |By the eternal life in the Son — vv.|4-13
1|John|5:4|-|For |1|everything that has been |2|begotten of God |3a|overcomes the |4|world; and this is the |b|victory which has overcome the world—our |5|faith.
1|John|5:5|-|And who is he who overcomes the world except him who |1|believes that |a|Jesus is the Son of God?
1|John|5:6|-|This is |1|He who came through |a|water and |b|blood|2|, Jesus Christ; not |3|in the water only, but |3|in the water and |3|in the blood; and the |c|Spirit is He who |4|testifies, because the Spirit is the |5|reality.
1|John|5:7|-|For there are three who testify,
1|John|5:8|-|The Spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are |1|unto the one thing.
1|John|5:9|-|If we receive the |a|testimony of men, the |1b|testimony of God is greater, because this is the testimony of God that He has testified concerning His |c|Son.
1|John|5:10|-|He who |1a|believes into the Son of God has the |b|testimony in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a |c|liar because he has |d|not believed in the testimony which God has testified concerning His Son.
1|John|5:11|-|And this is the |a|testimony, that God |1|gave to us |b|eternal life and this |c|life is in His Son.
1|John|5:12|-|He who |1|has the Son has the |a|life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
1|John|5:13|-|I have written |1|these things to you that you may know that you have eternal life, to you who |a|believe into the name of the Son of God.
2. |By the life-giving petition — vv.|14-17
1|John|5:14|-|And |1|this is the |2|boldness which we have toward Him, that if we |3a|ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
1|John|5:15|-|And if we |1|know that He hears us in whatever we |2|ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
1|John|5:16|-|If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not |1|unto death, he shall |2a|ask and he |3|will give |4b|life to him, to those sinning not unto death. There is a |5|sin unto |c|death; I do not say that he should |d|make request concerning that.
1|John|5:17|-|All |1a|unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not unto death.
3. |By the true God as the eternal life — vv.|18-21
1|John|5:18|-|We know that everyone who is |1|begotten of God |a|does not sin, but |2|he who has been begotten of God |3b|keeps himself, and the |4|evil one does not |5|touch him.
1|John|5:19|-|We know that we are |1|of God, and the |2|whole |a|world |3|lies in the |4b|evil one.
1|John|5:20|-|And we know that the Son of God has |1a|come and has given us an |2b|understanding that we might |3|know |4|Him who is |5c|true; and we are |6|in Him who is true, |7|in His Son Jesus Christ. |8|This is the |d|true God and |e|eternal life.
1|John|5:21|-||1|Little children, |2|guard yourselves from |3a|idols.
