X. |Concerning the saints of different ages5:1-16

1|Tim.|5:1|-|Do not |1|upbraid an |a|elderly man, but exhort him as a father, |b|younger men as brothers,
1|Tim.|5:2|-||a|Elderly women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
1|Tim.|5:3|-||1|Honor widows who are really |a|widows.
1|Tim.|5:4|-|But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to |1|show |a|respect toward their own household and to render a |2|return to their |b|parents; for this is |c|acceptable in the sight of God.
1|Tim.|5:5|-|Now she who is really a widow and is left alone has set her |a|hope on God and continues in petitions and |b|prayers night and day.
1|Tim.|5:6|-|But she who gives herself to |a|pleasure is |b|dead while living.
1|Tim.|5:7|-|These things also |a|charge, that they may be without reproach.
1|Tim.|5:8|-|But if anyone does not provide for |1|his own, and especially for those of his household, he has |a|denied the |2|faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
1|Tim.|5:9|-|Let a widow be enrolled, not under sixty years old, having been the |a|wife of one man,
1|Tim.|5:10|-||1|Well attested for good works, if she has brought up children, if she has shown |a|hospitality to strangers, if she has |b|washed the saints’ feet, if she has |c|assisted the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every |d|good work.
1|Tim.|5:11|-|But younger widows refuse; for when they follow their passions in disregard of Christ, they desire to marry,
1|Tim.|5:12|-|And thus have condemnation because they have set aside their first |1|pledge.
1|Tim.|5:13|-|And at the same time they also learn to be idle, going around from house to house; and they are not only idle but also gossips and |a|busybodies, speaking |b|things which they ought not.
1|Tim.|5:14|-|I will therefore that |1|younger widows |a|marry, |2|bear children, |b|keep house, give no opportunity to the opposer for reproach;
1|Tim.|5:15|-|For already some have turned aside after |a|Satan.
1|Tim.|5:16|-|If any believing woman has widows in her family, let her assist them, and let not the church be burdened, that it may assist those who are really |a|widows.

XI. |Concerning the elders5:17-25

1|Tim.|5:17|-|Let the |a|elders who |b|take the lead well be counted worthy of double |1|honor, |2|especially those who labor in |3|word and teaching.
1|Tim.|5:18|-|For the Scripture says, |a|“You shall not muzzle an ox that is treading out the grain,” and, |b|“The workman is worthy of his pay.”
1|Tim.|5:19|-|Against an elder do not |1|receive an accusation, except based upon two or three |a|witnesses.
1|Tim.|5:20|-|The ones who sin |1a|reprove |b|before |2|all that the rest also may have fear.
1|Tim.|5:21|-|I solemnly |a|charge you before God and Christ Jesus and the chosen |1|angels that you keep these things without |2|prejudice, doing nothing by way of |3|partiality.
1|Tim.|5:22|-||1a|Lay hands |2|quickly on no man, nor |b|participate in others’ sins; |c|keep yourself pure.
1|Tim.|5:23|-||1|No longer drink water only, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent |2|illnesses.
1|Tim.|5:24|-|The |1|sins of some men are openly |2|manifest, going before to judgment; and for others, |3|they |4|also follow after.
1|Tim.|5:25|-|Likewise also the |1|good works are openly manifest, and those that are otherwise cannot be |a|hidden.
