Acts|16:1|-|And he came also to |a|Derbe and to Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple named |b|Timothy was there, the son of a |c|Jewish woman who was a believer, but of a Greek father;
Acts|16:2|-|He was well attested to by the |a|brothers in |b|Lystra and |c|Iconium.
Acts|16:3|-|Paul wanted this one to go forth with him; and he took him and |1a|circumcised him |2|because of the |b|Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
Acts|16:4|-|And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the |a|decrees to keep which had been decided upon by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem.
Acts|16:5|-|And so the |1a|churches were strengthened in the |b|faith and |c|increased in number |d|daily.
Acts|16:6|-|And they passed through the region of |a|Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden |1|by the Holy |b|Spirit to speak the word in Asia.
Acts|16:7|-|And when they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, yet the |1a|Spirit of Jesus did |2|not allow them.
Acts|16:8|-|And bypassing Mysia, they came down to |a|Troas.
Acts|16:9|-|And a |1a|vision appeared to Paul during the night: A certain man, a Macedonian, was standing and entreating him and saying, Come over into |2b|Macedonia and help us.
Acts|16:10|-|And when he had seen the vision, |1|we immediately |2|endeavored to go forth into Macedonia, |3|concluding that God had called us to announce the gospel to them.
Acts|16:11|-|And putting out to sea from |1|Troas, we ran a straight course to |2|Samothrace, and on the following day to |3|Neapolis,
Acts|16:12|-|And from there to |a|Philippi, which is the leading city of that part of Macedonia, a Roman |1|colony; and we spent some days in this city.
Acts|16:13|-|And on the |1a|Sabbath day we went outside the gate by the |b|river, where we supposed there would be a place of |2|prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.
Acts|16:14|-|And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple-dyed goods from the city of |a|Thyatira who |b|worshipped God, was listening, whose heart the |1|Lord |c|opened to give heed to the things being spoken by Paul.
Acts|16:15|-|And when she was |1|baptized, as well as her |a|household, she entreated us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, |2|come into my |3|house and abide. And she constrained us.
Acts|16:16|-|And as we were going to the place of prayer, a certain slave girl having a |1a|spirit of |2|Python met us, who brought her masters much profit by |3b|divining.
Acts|16:17|-|This woman followed after Paul and us and |a|cried out, saying, These men are |b|slaves of the |c|Most High God, who announce to you a way of salvation.
Acts|16:18|-|And she did this for many days. But Paul was greatly disturbed; and turning, he said to the spirit, I charge you in the |a|name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it |b|came out that very hour.
Acts|16:19|-|But when her masters saw that their hope of |a|profit had gone out, they laid hold of Paul and |b|Silas and |c|dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.
Acts|16:20|-|And when they had brought them to the |1a|magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, are |b|throwing our city into confusion,
Acts|16:21|-|And they are announcing |a|customs which are not lawful for us, being |b|Romans, to accept or do.
Acts|16:22|-|And the crowd rose up together against them, and the magistrates tore off their garments and ordered some to |a|beat them with rods.
Acts|16:23|-|And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they threw them into |a|prison, charging the jailer to keep them securely,
Acts|16:24|-|Who, having received such a charge, threw them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the |1a|stocks.
Acts|16:25|-|And about |a|midnight Paul and Silas, while praying, sang hymns of praise to God; and the prisoners were listening to them.
Acts|16:26|-|And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were |a|shaken. And instantly all the doors were |b|opened and everyone’s |c|bonds were unfastened.
Acts|16:27|-|And the jailer, waking up out of his sleep and seeing the doors of the prison opened, drew his sword and was about to |a|do away with himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
Acts|16:28|-|But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, Do no harm to yourself, for we are all here.
Acts|16:29|-|And the jailer asked for lights and rushed in; and trembling, he |a|fell down before Paul and Silas.
Acts|16:30|-|And leading them outside, he said, Sirs, |a|what must I do to be saved?
Acts|16:31|-|And they said, |a|Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be |b|saved, you and your |1|household.
Acts|16:32|-|And they spoke the word of God to him together with all those in his house.
Acts|16:33|-|And he took them with him in that very hour of the night and washed their wounds. And he was |1a|baptized immediately, he and all his household.
Acts|16:34|-|And he brought them |1|up |2|into his house and |a|set a table before them; and he |b|exulted because he had believed in God with all his household.
Acts|16:35|-|Now when day came, the magistrates sent the |1|lictors, saying, Release those men.
Acts|16:36|-|And the jailer reported these words to Paul: The magistrates have sent that you may be released. Now therefore come out and go in peace.
Acts|16:37|-|But Paul said to them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are |a|Romans, and have thrown us into prison; and now secretly they are thrusting us out? No indeed! But let them come themselves and bring us out.
Acts|16:38|-|And the lictors reported these words to the magistrates. And they became |a|frightened when they heard that they were Romans.
Acts|16:39|-|And they came and entreated them. And when they had brought them out, they asked them to |a|depart from the city.
Acts|16:40|-|And they went out from the prison and entered the |a|house of Lydia; and when they saw the |b|brothers, they exhorted them and went forth.
