Acts|28:1|-|And having been brought safely through, we recognized then that the |a|island was called |1|Malta.
Acts|28:2|-|And the |1|natives showed us uncommon |a|kindness, for they kindled a fire and took us all in because of the rain coming on and because of the cold.
Acts|28:3|-|But when Paul had collected a bundle of sticks and put them on the fire, a |a|viper came out because of the heat and fastened onto his hand.
Acts|28:4|-|And when the natives saw the |1|snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, whom, though he has been brought safely out of the sea, |2|Justice has not allowed to live.
Acts|28:5|-|However he shook off the |a|snake into the fire and suffered no harm;
Acts|28:6|-|And they expected that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited for a long time and beheld nothing unusual happening to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a |1a|god.
Acts|28:7|-|Now in the vicinity of that place were the lands of the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and gave us hospitality three days in a |a|friendly way.
Acts|28:8|-|And the father of Publius was lying down sick with |a|fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him, and having |b|prayed and |c|laid his hands on him, healed him.
Acts|28:9|-|And when this happened, the rest also in the island who had sicknesses came to him and were |1|healed.
Acts|28:10|-|They also honored us with many honors; and as we put out to sea, they put on board the things for our needs.
e. |To Rome, ending the fourth journey28:11-31(1) |Through Syracuse to Rome — vv.|11-16

Acts|28:12|-|And having landed at Syracuse, we remained three days.
Acts|28:13|-|From there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium. And after one day a south wind came on, and the second day we came to Puteoli,
Acts|28:14|-|Where, having found |a|brothers, we were urged to remain with them seven days. And thus we came to Rome.
Acts|28:15|-|And from |1|there the |2|brothers, having heard about the things concerning us, came as far as the |3|Market of Appius and |4|Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and |5|took courage.
Acts|28:16|-|And when we entered into Rome, Paul was permitted to remain by himself with the soldier who was |a|guarding him.
(2) |Contacting the Jewish leaders — vv.|17-22
Acts|28:17|-|And after three days he called together those who were the leading men of the Jews; and when they came together, he said to them, |1|Men, brothers, though I have done |a|nothing against the people or the |b|customs of our fathers, I have been delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,
Acts|28:18|-|Who, having examined me, intended to |a|release me, because there was not one |b|cause of death in me.
Acts|28:19|-|But when the Jews spoke against this, I was compelled to |a|appeal to Caesar, not that I have anything to accuse my |b|nation of.
Acts|28:20|-|For this cause therefore, I have entreated you to see me and speak with me; for on account of the |a|hope of Israel I have this |b|chain around me.
Acts|28:21|-|And they said to him, We have neither received |a|letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brothers come and reported or spoken anything evil concerning you.
Acts|28:22|-|But we think it is fitting to hear from you what you think, for concerning this |a|sect it is indeed known to us that it is |b|spoken against everywhere.
(3) |Ministering in Rome — vv.|23-31
Acts|28:23|-|And once they had appointed a day for him, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he |a|expounded these matters, solemnly |b|testifying of the |1c|kingdom of God and |d|persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of |e|Moses and the |f|Prophets, from morning until evening.
Acts|28:24|-|And |a|some were persuaded by the things which were said, but others did not believe.
Acts|28:25|-|And when they disagreed with one another, they departed, Paul saying one word to them, Well has the Holy Spirit spoken through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,
Acts|28:26|-|Saying, |1|“Go to this people and say, In hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you will see and by no means perceive;
Acts|28:27|-|For the |a|heart of this people has become |1|fat, and with their ears they have heard heavily, and their |b|eyes they have closed, lest they perceive with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart, and they turn around, and I will heal them.”
Acts|28:28|-|Let it be known to you therefore that this |a|salvation of God has been sent to the |b|Gentiles; they will also |c|hear it.
