I. |The introductory word — 1:1-2

Amos|1:1|-|The words of |1|Amos, who was among the sheep tenders from Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of |a|Uzziah the king of Judah and in the days of |b|Jeroboam the son of Joash, the king of Israel, two years before the |c|earthquake.
Amos|1:2|-|And he said,|a|Jehovah will roar from Zion,And from Jerusalem He will utter His voice;And the pastures of the shepherds will mourn,And the top of Carmel will dry up.

II. |Jehovah's judgments on the surrounding nations — 1:3-2:3

A. |On Damascus — 1:3-5
Amos|1:3|-|Thus says Jehovah,Because of |1|three transgressions of |a|Damascus,Indeed, because of four, I will not turn away |2|the punishment;Because they have threshed |b|GileadWith sharp threshing tools of iron.
Amos|1:4|-|And I will send fire into the house of Hazael,And it will devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.Amos|1:5|-|And I will break the bar of Damascus,And I will cut off the inhabitant of the valley of |1|AvenAnd him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden;And the people of |2|Aram will go into |a|captivity unto Kir,Says Jehovah.
B. |On Gaza — 1:6-8
Amos|1:6|-|Thus says Jehovah,Because of three transgressions of |a|Gaza,Indeed, because of four, I will not turn away the punishment;Because they carried away captive the entire captivityIn order to deliver them up to |b|Edom.
Amos|1:7|-|And I will send fire to the wall of Gaza,And it will devour its palaces.Amos|1:8|-|And I will cut off the inhabitant from |a|AshdodAnd him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon,And I will turn My hand against Ekron;And the remnant of the Philistines will perish,Says the Lord Jehovah.
C. |On Tyre — 1:9-10
Amos|1:9|-|Thus says Jehovah,Because of three transgressions of |a|Tyre,Indeed, because of four, I will not turn away the punishment;Because they delivered up the entire captivity to |b|EdomAnd did not remember a covenant among brothers.

Amos|1:14|-|And I will kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah,And it will devour its palacesWith shouting in the day of battle,With a tempest in the day of the storm wind.Amos|1:15|-|And their king will go into |a|captivity,He and his princes together,Says Jehovah.
