Exo.|17:1|-|And all the assembly of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin by their |1|stages according to the command of Jehovah and encamped in |a|Rephidim, and there was |2|no water for the people to drink.
Exo.|17:2|-|Therefore the people |1a|contended with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why are you contending with me? Why do you |b|test Jehovah?
Exo.|17:3|-|So the people thirsted there for water, and the people |a|murmured against Moses and said, For what reason did you bring us up out of Egypt; to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?
Exo.|17:4|-|So Moses cried out to Jehovah, saying, What shall I do with this people? |1|A little more, and they will stone me.
Exo.|17:5|-|And Jehovah said to Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your |a|staff with which you struck the River, and go.
Exo.|17:6|-|I will be standing before you there upon the |1|rock in Horeb; and you shall |2|strike the |a|rock, and |3|water will come out of it so that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Exo.|17:7|-|And he called the name of the place |1a|Massah and |2b|Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel and because they tested Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us or not?
Exo.|17:8|-|Then |1a|Amalek came and |2|fought with Israel in Rephidim.
Exo.|17:9|-|And Moses said to |1a|Joshua, Choose men for us, and go out; fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the |b|staff of God in my hand.
Exo.|17:10|-|So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and |a|Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Exo.|17:11|-|And when Moses |1|lifted his hand up, Israel prevailed; and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed.
Exo.|17:12|-|But Moses’ hands were |1|heavy, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Exo.|17:13|-|And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Exo.|17:14|-|And Jehovah said to Moses, Write this as a memorial in a book and |1|recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly |2|blot out the memory of |a|Amalek from under heaven.
Exo.|17:15|-|And Moses built an |a|altar and called the name of it |1|Jehovah-nissi;
Exo.|17:16|-|For he said, For there is a |1|hand against the throne of |2|Jah! Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
