Gen.|2:3|-|And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all His work which God had |1|created and made.
B. |God's procedures to fulfill His purpose2:4-25
1. |The background—no rain from heaven, no man on the ground, no life in the field, only a mist from the earth — vv.|4-6
Gen.|2:4|-||1|These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were |2|created. |3|When |4|Jehovah God |2|made earth and heaven,
Gen.|2:5|-|And no |a|plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up—for Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to |1b|work the ground,
Gen.|2:6|-|But a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground—
2. |The first step—creating man as a vessel to contain God as lifev.|7
Gen.|2:7|-|Jehovah God |1|formed |2|man from the |3a|dust of the |4|ground and breathed into his nostrils the |5b|breath of life, and man became a living |6c|soul.
3. |The second step—having man receive God as life — vv.|8-17
a. |Placing man in front of the tree of life — vv.|8-9
Gen.|2:8|-|And Jehovah God planted a |a|garden in |1|Eden, in the east; and there He put the man whom He had formed.
Gen.|2:9|-|And out of the ground Jehovah God caused to grow every tree that is |1|pleasant to the sight and good for food, as well as the |2a|tree of life in the middle of the garden and the |3b|tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
b. |Putting man in the garden with its river — vv.|10-15
Gen.|2:10|-|And a |1a|river went |2|forth from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became |3|four |4|branches.
Gen.|2:11|-|The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that goes around the whole land of |a|Havilah, where there is gold.
Gen.|2:12|-|And the |1|gold of that land is good; |1a|bdellium and |1b|onyx stone are there.
Gen.|2:13|-|And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that goes around the whole land of Cush.
Gen.|2:14|-|And the name of the third river is |a|Hiddekel; it is the one that goes east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
Gen.|2:15|-|And Jehovah God took the man and |1|put him in the garden of Eden to |2|work it and to |3|keep it.
c. |Allowing man to have free choice — vv.|16-17
Gen.|2:16|-|And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, |a|Of every tree of the garden you may eat freely,
Gen.|2:17|-|But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, of it you shall |1a|not eat; for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely |2b|die.
4. |The third step—working God into man as life to be His complement — vv.|18-25
a. |Man, typifying God, needing to have a complement — vv.|18-20
Gen.|2:18|-|And Jehovah God said, It is not |a|good for the |1|man to be alone; I will make him a |b|helper as his |2|counterpart.
Gen.|2:19|-|Now Jehovah God had formed |a|from the ground every animal of the field and every bird of heaven. And He brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called any living animal, that was its name.
Gen.|2:20|-|And the man gave names to all cattle and to the birds of heaven and to every animal of the field, but for Adam there was |1|not found a helper as his counterpart.
b. |Man gaining a complement in and by life — vv.|21-25
Gen.|2:21|-|And Jehovah God caused a |1a|deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and He took one of his |2|ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.
Gen.|2:22|-|And Jehovah God |1a|built the rib, which He had taken from the man, into a |2|woman and |3|brought her to the man.
Gen.|2:23|-|And the man said,This time this is |a|bone of my bonesAnd flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called |1|WomanBecause |b|out of |2|Man this one was taken.
Gen.|2:24|-|Therefore a |a|man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife, and |b|they shall become one |1|flesh.
Gen.|2:25|-||1|And both the man and his wife were |a|naked and were not ashamed before each other.
