Gen.|35:1|-|And God said to Jacob, Rise up, go up to |1a|Bethel, and dwell there; and make an |b|altar there to the God who appeared to you when you |c|fled from your brother Esau.
Gen.|35:2|-|Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, |1|Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and |1|change your garments.
Gen.|35:3|-|And let us rise up and go up to Bethel, that I may make an altar there to the God who |a|answered me in the day of my distress and has been |b|with me wherever I have gone.
Gen.|35:4|-|So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hand and the |1|rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak that was near Shechem.
Gen.|35:5|-|And as they journeyed, the |a|terror of God was upon the cities that were around them, so they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
Gen.|35:6|-|And Jacob came to Luz (that is, |a|Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
Gen.|35:7|-|And he built an |1a|altar there and called the place |2|El-bethel, because there God had revealed Himself to him when he fled from his |b|brother.
Gen.|35:8|-|And |a|Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; so its name was called |1|Allon-bacuth.
Gen.|35:9|-|And God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram and blessed him.
Gen.|35:10|-|And God said to him,Your name is Jacob;
Your name shall |a|no longer be called Jacob,But |1b|Israel shall be your name.
Thus He called his name Israel.
Gen.|35:11|-|And God said to him,I am the |1a|All-sufficient God:
Be |b|fruitful and multiply;A |2c|nation and a company of nations shall come from you,
And kings shall come forth from your loins.
Gen.|35:12|-|And the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac,I will give to you;
And I will give the land to your |a|seed after you.
Gen.|35:13|-|Then God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.
Gen.|35:14|-|And Jacob set up a |1|pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a |a|pillar of stone; and he poured out a |2|drink offering on it and poured oil on it.
Gen.|35:15|-|And Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him |a|Bethel.
Gen.|35:16|-|And they journeyed from Bethel. And while there was still some distance to come to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth; and she had hard labor.
Gen.|35:17|-|And while she was in hardest labor, the midwife said to her, Do not be afraid, for now you have another |a|son.
Gen.|35:18|-|And as her soul was departing (for she |1|died), she called his name |2|Ben-oni; but his father called him |3a|Benjamin.
Gen.|35:19|-|So Rachel |a|died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, |b|Bethlehem).
Gen.|35:20|-|And Jacob set up a |1|pillar on her grave; that is the |a|pillar of Rachel’s grave, which is there to this day.
Gen.|35:21|-|And |1|Israel journeyed and pitched his |a|tent beyond the tower of Eder.
Gen.|35:22|-|And while Israel dwelt in that land, Reuben went and |1a|lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were |b|twelve:
Gen.|35:23|-|The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun.
Gen.|35:24|-|The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
Gen.|35:25|-|And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s female servant: Dan and Naphtali.
Gen.|35:26|-|And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s female servant: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
Gen.|35:27|-|And Jacob came to Isaac his father at Mamre, at Kiriath-arba (that is, |1a|Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had |b|sojourned.
Gen.|35:28|-|And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
Gen.|35:29|-|And Isaac expired and died and was gathered to his people, an old man and full of days; and Esau and Jacob his sons |1a|buried him.
