6. |Fulfilling God's purpose to express and represent Him9:1-7
Gen.|9:1|-|And God |a|blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, |1|Be |b|fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
Gen.|9:2|-|And the |a|fear of you and the terror of you shall be upon every animal of the earth and upon every bird of heaven, on everything that creeps on the ground and on all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered.
Gen.|9:3|-|Every moving thing that lives shall be |1a|food for you; just as I gave you the green |b|herb, so I have given you everything.
Gen.|9:4|-|But flesh with its life, that is, its |a|blood, you shall not eat.
Gen.|9:5|-|And indeed your lifeblood I will require; from every |a|animal I will require it. And from every man, from every man’s brother, I will |b|require the life of man.
Gen.|9:6|-||1|Whoever sheds man’s blood,By man shall his blood be shed,For in the |2a|image of GodHe made man.Gen.|9:7|-|And you, be |a|fruitful and multiply;Abound on the earth and multiply in it.
7. |Living under God's covenant9:8-17
a. |No more judgment through death's waters — vv.|8-11
Gen.|9:8|-|Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
Gen.|9:9|-|And I Myself now establish My |1a|covenant with you and with your seed after you
Gen.|9:10|-|And with every living animal that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every animal of the earth with you, of all that came out of the ark, every animal of the earth.
Gen.|9:11|-|And I establish My covenant with you, that never again will all flesh be cut off by the |a|waters of the flood, and never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.
b. |The rainbow as the sign of God's faithfulness in keeping His covenant — vv.|12-17
Gen.|9:12|-|And God said, This is the |a|sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living animal that is with you, for perpetual generations:
Gen.|9:13|-|I set My |1a|bow in the clouds, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.
Gen.|9:14|-|And when I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow is seen in the clouds,
Gen.|9:15|-|I will |a|remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living animal of all flesh, and never again will the |b|waters become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Gen.|9:16|-|And the bow will be in the clouds, and I will look upon it to remember the |a|everlasting covenant between God and every living animal of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Gen.|9:17|-|And God said to Noah, This is the |a|sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
8. |The failure of the leader and deputy authority9:18-29
a. |Caused by the success of his work — vv.|18-21
Gen.|9:18|-|Now the sons of Noah who came forth from the ark were Shem and Ham and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan.
Gen.|9:19|-|These three were the sons of Noah, and |a|from these the whole earth was spread over.
Gen.|9:20|-|And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard.
Gen.|9:21|-|And he drank of the wine and became drunk. And he |1|uncovered himself inside his tent.
b. |Ham exposing the failure, and Shem and Japheth covering the failure — vv.|22-24
Gen.|9:22|-|And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the |a|nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside.
Gen.|9:23|-|And Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it upon both their shoulders, and they walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. And their faces were turned backward, so that they did not see their father’s nakedness.
Gen.|9:24|-|And Noah awoke from his wine and learned what his youngest son had done to him.
c. |Ham's son receiving the curse, and Shem and Japheth receiving the blessing — vv.|25-29
Gen.|9:25|-|And he said,|1|Cursed be Canaan:A servant of servantsShall he be to his brothers.Gen.|9:26|-|And he said,Blessed be Jehovah,The God of |1|Shem;And let Canaan be his servant.Gen.|9:27|-|May God enlarge Japheth,And let him dwell in the |1|tents of Shem,And let Canaan be his servant.
Gen.|9:28|-|And Noah lived after the flood three hundred fifty years.
Gen.|9:29|-|And all the days of Noah were nine hundred fifty years, and he died.
