Isa.|9:1|-|But gloom does not remain in the place where there was anguish: formerly He treated the |a|land of Zebulun and the land of |b|Naphtali contemptibly, but afterward He treats the way of the |1|sea, across the Jordan, with glory, |2|Galilee of the nations.
Isa.|9:2|-|The people who walked in the |a|darknessHave seen a great |1b|light;
Upon those who dwell in the land of the |c|shadow of death|1|Light has shined.
Isa.|9:3|-|You have |1a|multiplied the nation;You have increased their gladness;
They are glad before You as with the gladness of harvest,As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
Isa.|9:4|-|For You break the yoke of their burdenAnd the staff on their shoulder,
The rod of their oppressor,As in the day of |1a|Midian.
Isa.|9:5|-|For all the bootsOf those who in boots trample in the battle-quake
And the garmentsRolled in |a|blood
Are for burning;They are fuel for |b|fire.
Isa.|9:6|-|For a |1|child is |a|born |2|to us,A |1|Son is |b|given |2|to us;
And the |3|governmentIs upon His shoulder;
And His name will be called|4c|Wonderful Counselor,
|5|Mighty |d|God,|5|Eternal |e|Father,
|6|Prince of |f|Peace.
Isa.|9:7|-|To the increase of His |1|governmentAnd to His |1|peace there is |a|no end,
Upon the |2b|throne of DavidAnd over His kingdom,
To establish itAnd to uphold it
In justice and righteousnessFrom now to eternity.
The |c|zeal of Jehovah of hostsWill accomplish this.
Isa.|9:8|-|The Lord sends out a word against |1|Jacob,And it descends upon |1|Israel.
Isa.|9:9|-|And all the people know it,Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria,
Saying in pride and haughtiness of heart,
Isa.|9:10|-|The bricks have fallen, but we will build with cut stone;The sycamores have been felled, but we will put cedars in their place.
Isa.|9:11|-|Then Jehovah exalts the adversaries of Rezin against themAnd goads their enemies on.
Isa.|9:12|-|Aram from the east and the Philistines from the west:They devour Israel with an open mouth.
By all this His anger is not turned;His hand is still outstretched.
Isa.|9:13|-|Yet the people do |a|not turn to Him who strikes them,Nor do they seek Jehovah of hosts.
Isa.|9:14|-|Then Jehovah cuts off from Israel head and tail,Palm branch and marsh reed |a|in one day.
Isa.|9:15|-|The elder and the highly regarded—he is the head;The prophet and the teacher of falsehood—he is the tail.
Isa.|9:16|-|And those who lead this people are those who |a|mislead them;And those who are led are those who are confused.
Isa.|9:17|-|Because of this the Lord will not rejoice in their young men,And He will not have compassion on their orphans and widows;
For all of them are profane and evildoers,And every mouth speaks foolishness.
By all this His anger is not turned;His hand is still outstretched.
Isa.|9:18|-|For wickedness burns like a fire;It devours thorn and thistle,
And burns in the forest thickets;And it rolls up into a column of smoke.
Isa.|9:19|-|At the overflowing wrath of Jehovah of hosts a land is burned up,And the people are like fuel for fire;
No one spares even his brother.
Isa.|9:20|-|One carves on the right side, but is hungry;And another eats on the left side, but is not satisfied.
Each eats the flesh of his own arm:
Isa.|9:21|-|Manasseh, Ephraim, and Ephraim, Manasseh;These together against Judah.
By all this His anger is not turned;His hand is still outstretched.
