Joel|2:1|-|Blow a |a|trumpet in Zion;Sound an alarm in My holy mountain;
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,For the |b|day of Jehovah comes;
For it draws near:
Joel|2:2|-||a|A day of |b|darkness and gloominess,A day of clouds and deep darkness,
Like the dawn spread over the mountains—A |c|people great and mighty.
|d|There has not been any like themSince eternity,
And there will not be any more after them,Even until the years of the generation of the generations.
Joel|2:3|-|A |a|fire devours before them,And after them a flame blazes.
Before them the land is like the garden of |b|Eden,After them, like a desolate |c|wilderness;
And indeed no one escapes them.
Joel|2:4|-|Their appearance is like the appearance of |a|horses;And as horsemen, so they run.
Joel|2:5|-|Like the |a|sound of chariotsUpon the mountaintops they leap,
Like the sound of a flame of fireThat devours the stubble,
Like a mighty peopleSet in battle array.
Joel|2:6|-||a|At their presence the peoples writhed in anguish;All faces became pale.
Joel|2:7|-|They run like mighty men;Like men of battle they climb the wall.
And they march, each in his ways,And do not break their ranks.
Joel|2:8|-|Nor do they crowd each other;They march, each on his highway.
Though they fall among weapons,They do not break off their progress.
Joel|2:9|-|They rush at the city;They run against the wall;
They go up into the houses;In through the windows
They go, like a thief.
Joel|2:10|-|The earth |a|quakes before them;The heavens shake;
The |b|sun and the moon grow dark,And the stars withdraw their shining.
Joel|2:11|-|And Jehovah utters His voiceBefore His army,
For His camp is very great,For He who executes His word is mighty.
For the |a|day of Jehovah is greatAnd very terrible,
And who can endure it?
Joel|2:12|-|Yet even now,Declares Jehovah,
|a|Turn to Me with all your heartAnd with fasting and weeping and mourning;
Joel|2:13|-|And rend your |a|hearts,And not your |b|garments,
And turn to Jehovah your God,For He is gracious and |c|compassionate,
Long-suffering and abundant in lovingkindnessAnd repentant of evil.
Joel|2:14|-||a|Who knows whether He will turn and repentAnd leave a blessing behind Him,
A |1|meal offering and a |1|drink offeringTo Jehovah your God?
Joel|2:15|-||1|Blow a |a|trumpet in Zion;|2|Sanctify a |b|fast;
Call a |3|solemn assembly;
Joel|2:16|-|Gather the people;Sanctify the congregation;
Assemble the elders;Gather the children
And those who suck the breasts;Let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber,
And the bride from her canopy.
Joel|2:17|-|Let the |a|priests, the ministers of Jehovah,Weep between the porch and the |b|altar,
And let them say,Look with pity, O Jehovah, upon Your people;
And do not give Your inheritance over to reproach,That the nations should rule over them.
|c|Why should they say among the peoples,Where is their God?
Joel|2:18|-|Then Jehovah became jealous for |1|His land,And He spared His people.
Joel|2:19|-|And Jehovah answered and said to His people,I am about to send you
The |a|grain and the new wine and the fresh oil,And you will be satisfied with it;
And I will no longer make youA reproach among the nations,
Joel|2:20|-|But the |a|northern armyI will remove far from you;
And I will drive it into a landBarren and desolate,
With its face toward the eastern seaAnd its end toward the western sea.
And its |b|stench will go up,And its foul smell will go up,
For it has done great things.
Joel|2:21|-|Do not fear, O land;Be glad and rejoice,
For Jehovah has done great things.
Joel|2:22|-|Do not fear, O beasts of the field,For the pastures of the wilderness turn green.
For the tree bears its fruit;The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
Joel|2:23|-|O children of Zion,Be glad and rejoice
In Jehovah your God.For He gives you
The |a|early rain in righteousness,And He makes the rain come down for you:
The |1|early rain and the |1|late rainAt the beginning of the season.
Joel|2:24|-|And the threshing floors will be full of grain,And the wine vats will overflow with new wine and fresh oil.
Joel|2:25|-|And I will restore to you the yearsThat the swarming |a|locust has eaten,
The licking locust and the consuming locust and the cutting locust,My great army
That I sent among you.
Joel|2:26|-|And you will eat to the |a|full and be satisfied,And you will praise the name of Jehovah your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;And My people will never be ashamed.
Joel|2:27|-|And you will know that I am in the |a|midst of Israel,And that I am Jehovah your |b|God and there is none else.
And My people will never be ashamed.
Joel|2:28|-||a|And afterward I will |1|pour out My |b|Spirit upon all flesh,And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy;
Your old men shall dream dreams;Your young men shall see visions.
Joel|2:29|-|Indeed even upon the male and female slavesIn those days I will pour out My |a|Spirit.
Joel|2:30|-|And I will |1|show |a|wonders in the heavens and on earth:Blood and |b|fire and pillars of |c|smoke.
Joel|2:31|-|The |a|sun shall be turned into darkness,And the moon into blood,
Before the great and terrible|1b|Day of Jehovah comes.
Joel|2:32|-|And everyone who |1a|calls on the name of Jehovah shall be saved;For in Mount |b|Zion and in Jerusalem will be an escape,
As Jehovah has said,Even for the |c|remnant
Whom Jehovah |d|calls.
