John|5:1|-|After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John|5:2|-|Now there is in Jerusalem near the |1a|Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew |2|Bethesda, having |3|five porticoes.
John|5:3|-||1|In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, |2|waiting for the moving of the water.
John|5:4|-|For an |1|angel went down from time to time in the pool and |2|stirred up the water; the first then to step in after the stirring up of the water was made |3|well of whatever disease he was being held by.
John|5:5|-|And a certain |1|man was there, who had been thirty-eight years in his sickness.
John|5:6|-|When Jesus saw this one lying there and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, |1|He said to him, Do you want to get well?
John|5:7|-|The sick man answered Him, |1|Sir, |2|I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.
John|5:8|-|Jesus said to him, |a|Rise, take up your |1|mat and walk.
John|5:9|-|And immediately the man |1|became well, and he |2|took up his mat and walked. Now it was the |a|Sabbath on that day;
John|5:10|-|Therefore the Jews said to the one who had been healed, It is the |a|Sabbath, and |1b|it is not lawful for you to take up your mat.
John|5:11|-|But he answered them, He who made me well, that One said to me, Take up your mat and walk.
John|5:12|-|They asked him, Who is the man who said to you, Take up your mat and walk?
John|5:13|-|But he who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, there being a crowd in that place.
John|5:14|-|After these things Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, Behold, you have become well; |1a|sin no more so that nothing worse happens to you.
John|5:15|-|The man went away and told the Jews that Jesus was the One who made him well.
John|5:16|-|And because of this the Jews persecuted Jesus |1|and |a|sought to kill Him, because He did these things on the Sabbath.
John|5:17|-|But Jesus answered them, My Father is |1|working until now, and I also am working.
John|5:18|-|Because of this therefore the Jews |1|sought all the more to |a|kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath but also called God His own Father, making Himself |2|equal with |b|God.
John|5:19|-|Then Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, |a|The Son can do nothing from Himself except what He sees the Father doing, for whatever that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
John|5:20|-|For |a|the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and |b|greater works than these He will show Him that you may marvel.
John|5:21|-|For just as the Father |a|raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He wills.
John|5:22|-|For neither does the Father judge anyone, but He has given all |a|judgment to the Son,
John|5:23|-|In order that all may honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
John|5:24|-|Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears My word and |a|believes Him who sent Me has |1|eternal life, and does not come into |2|judgment but has |b|passed out of |3|death into life.
John|5:25|-|Truly, truly, I say to you, An hour is coming, and it is now, when the |1a|dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will |1|live.
John|5:26|-|For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He gave to the Son to also have |a|life in Himself;
John|5:27|-|And He gave Him authority to execute |a|judgment because He is the |1|Son of Man.
John|5:28|-|Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming in which |1|all in the tombs will hear His |a|voice
John|5:29|-|And will come forth: |a|those who have done good, to the |1b|resurrection of life; and those who have |2|practiced evil, to the |3c|resurrection of |4|judgment.
John|5:30|-||a|I can do nothing from Myself; as I hear, I judge, and |b|My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will but the |c|will of Him who sent Me.
John|5:31|-|If |a|I testify concerning Myself, My testimony is not true.
John|5:32|-|There is another who testifies concerning Me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies concerning Me is true.
John|5:33|-|You have sent people to John, and |a|he has testified to the |1|truth.
John|5:34|-|But it is not from man that I receive My testimony, but I say these things that you may be saved.
John|5:35|-|He was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to exult for a while in his light.
John|5:36|-|But I have the testimony which is greater than that of John, for the |a|works which the Father has given Me to finish, the works themselves which I do, testify concerning Me that the Father has |1b|sent Me.
John|5:37|-|And the |a|Father who sent Me, He has |1|testified concerning Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor have you seen His form,
John|5:38|-|And you do not have His word abiding in you, for Him whom He sent, this One you do not believe.
John|5:39|-|You |1|search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that testify concerning Me.
John|5:40|-|Yet you are not willing to |1|come to Me that you may have life.
John|5:41|-|I do not receive glory from men.
John|5:42|-|But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
John|5:43|-|I have come |1a|in the name of My Father, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
John|5:44|-|How can you believe when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that is from the only God?
John|5:45|-|Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; there is one who accuses you: Moses, in whom you have set your hope.
John|5:46|-|For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for |a|he wrote concerning Me.
John|5:47|-|But |a|if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?
