Luke|2:1|-|And in those days a decree went out from |a|Caesar Augustus for a |b|census to be taken of all the inhabited earth.
Luke|2:2|-|This was the |1|first census that took place when Quirinius |a|governed Syria.
Luke|2:3|-|And all went to be registered, each to his own city.
Luke|2:4|-|And |a|Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of |b|Nazareth into Judea, to David’s city, which is called |c|Bethlehem, because he was of the |1|house and family of David,
Luke|2:5|-|To be registered with Mary, who was engaged to him and was |a|pregnant.
Luke|2:6|-|And while they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to bear,
Luke|2:7|-|And she |1a|bore her |b|firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a |2|manger because there was no place for them in the |c|inn.
Luke|2:8|-|And there were |1|shepherds in the same region, spending their nights in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luke|2:9|-|And an |a|angel of the Lord |b|stood by them, and the |c|glory of the Lord shone around them; and they |d|feared greatly.
Luke|2:10|-|And the angel said to them, Do |a|not be afraid; for behold, I |b|announce to you good news of |c|great joy, which will be for |d|all the people,
Luke|2:11|-|Because today a |a|Savior has been |b|born to you in |c|David’s city, who is |d|Christ the |e|Lord.
Luke|2:12|-|And this will be the |1|sign to you: you will find a |2|baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.
Luke|2:13|-|And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly |a|army, |1b|praising God and saying,
Luke|2:14|-||1a|Glory in the |b|highest places to God, and on |c|earth |1d|peace among |2|men of His |e|good pleasure.
Luke|2:15|-|And when the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds spoke to one another, Let us go then to Bethlehem and see this |1|thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.
Luke|2:16|-|And they came in haste and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger.
Luke|2:17|-|And when they had seen this, they made known the word which was spoken to them concerning this little child.
Luke|2:18|-|And all those who heard marveled at the things spoken to them by the shepherds.
Luke|2:19|-|But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her |a|heart.
Luke|2:20|-|And the shepherds returned, |a|glorifying and praising God for all the things which they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.
Luke|2:21|-|And when eight days were fulfilled to |a|circumcise Him, His name was called |b|Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
Luke|2:22|-|And when the days for their |a|purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they |b|brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
Luke|2:23|-|(Even as it is written in the |a|law of the Lord, |b|“Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),
Luke|2:24|-|And to give a sacrifice according to what is said in the |1|law of the Lord: |2|A pair of turtledoves or two young doves.
Luke|2:25|-|And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. And this man was |1a|righteous and |b|devout, |c|waiting for the |2d|consolation of Israel, and the |e|Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luke|2:26|-|And it had been divinely communicated to him by the Holy Spirit that he would |a|not see death before he had seen the Lord’s |b|Christ.
Luke|2:27|-|And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the little child Jesus for them to do according to the custom of the |a|law concerning Him,
Luke|2:28|-|He received Him into his arms and |a|blessed God and said,
Luke|2:29|-|Now You release Your slave, Master, according to Your word, in |a|peace;
Luke|2:30|-|For my eyes have seen Your |1a|salvation,
Luke|2:31|-|Which You have prepared before the face of all the peoples,
Luke|2:32|-|A |1a|light for revelation to the Gentiles and the |b|glory of Your people Israel.
Luke|2:33|-|And His father and mother marveled at the things being spoken about Him.
Luke|2:34|-|And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this One is |1|appointed for the |a|falling and rising up of many in Israel and for a |2|sign |b|spoken against—
Luke|2:35|-|And a |1|sword will pierce through your own soul also—so that the reasonings of many hearts may be |2|revealed.
Luke|2:36|-|And there was one Anna, a |a|prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of |b|Asher. She was well advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from her virginity,
Luke|2:37|-||1|And she was a |a|widow up to the age of eighty-four, who did not depart from the temple, |2|serving God with |b|fastings and petitions |c|night and day.
Luke|2:38|-|And at that very hour she came up and returned thanks to God, and spoke concerning Him to all those |a|waiting for the |1b|redemption |2|of Jerusalem.
Luke|2:39|-|And when they had finished all things according to the |a|law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, |1b|Nazareth.
Luke|2:40|-|And the little child |1|grew and became strong, being filled with |2a|wisdom, and the |3|grace of God was upon Him.
Luke|2:41|-|And His parents went year by year to |a|Jerusalem at the Feast of the |b|Passover.
Luke|2:42|-|And when He became |1|twelve years old, they went up according to the |2a|custom of the feast.
Luke|2:43|-|And when they had completed the days, while they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and His parents did not know it.
Luke|2:44|-|But supposing that He was in the company, they went a day’s journey and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
Luke|2:45|-|And when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem searching for Him.
Luke|2:46|-|And after three days they found Him in the |a|temple, sitting in the midst of the |b|teachers, both hearing them and questioning them.
Luke|2:47|-|And all those who heard Him were |a|amazed at His understanding and His answers.
Luke|2:48|-|And when they saw Him, they were astounded; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Behold, Your father and I, being |1|greatly distressed, have been seeking You.
Luke|2:49|-|And He said to them, Why is it that you were seeking Me? Did you not know that I |1|must be |2|in the things of |3a|My Father?
Luke|2:50|-|And they did |a|not understand the word which He spoke to them.
Luke|2:51|-|And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was |1|subject to them. And His mother carefully kept all these things in her |a|heart.
Luke|2:52|-|And Jesus advanced in wisdom and |1|stature and in the |2a|grace manifested in Him before God and men.
