6. |Praising the poor widow21:1-4
Luke|21:1|-|And He looked up and |1|saw the |a|rich |b|casting their |2|gifts into the |c|treasury.
Luke|21:2|-|And He saw a certain |1|impoverished widow casting there two |a|lepta.
Luke|21:3|-|And He said, Truly I tell you that this |a|poor widow has cast in more than all of them,
Luke|21:4|-|For all these out of their surplus have cast in something into the gifts, but she out of her lack has cast in all the |a|living that she had.
E. |Preparing the disciples for His death21:5-22:46
1. |Telling them of things to come21:5-36
a. |The destruction of the temple — vv.|5-6
Luke|21:5|-||1|And as some were speaking about the |a|temple, that it was adorned with |2|beautiful stones and |3|consecrated offerings, He said,
Luke|21:6|-|As for these things which you are looking at, the days will come in which there will not be left a |a|stone upon a stone which will not be thrown down.
b. |The plagues between His ascension and the great tribulation — vv.|7-11
Luke|21:7|-|And they questioned Him, saying, Teacher, when therefore will these things be? And what will be the sign |a|when these things are about to take place?
Luke|21:8|-|And He said, |a|See that you are not led astray, for many will come in My |b|name, saying, I am the Christ! and, The time has drawn near! Do not go after them.
Luke|21:9|-|And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, for these things must take place first; but the end does not come immediately.
Luke|21:10|-|Then He said to them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
Luke|21:11|-|And there will be great |a|earthquakes, and in various places |b|famines and pestilences; and there will be terrors and great |c|signs from heaven.
c. |The persecution of His disciples in the church age — vv.|12-19
Luke|21:12|-|But before all these things they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, |a|delivering you up to the synagogues and |b|prisons, |c|bringing you before |d|kings and governors for the sake of My name.
Luke|21:13|-|It will turn out to you for a testimony.
Luke|21:14|-|Settle it therefore in your hearts not to |a|take thought beforehand how to reply in defense,
Luke|21:15|-|For I will give you a |a|mouth and wisdom which all those opposing you will not be able to |b|resist or refute.
Luke|21:16|-|And you will be |1|delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.
Luke|21:17|-|And you will be |a|hated by all because of My name,
Luke|21:18|-|Yet a |a|hair of your head shall by no means perish.
Luke|21:19|-|In your |a|endurance you will |1|possess your souls.
d. |The great tribulation and His coming — vv.|20-27
Luke|21:20|-||1|But when you |a|see Jerusalem |b|surrounded by armies, then know that her desolation has drawn near.
Luke|21:21|-|Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those in her midst get out, and let not those in the country enter into her,
Luke|21:22|-|Because these are days of |a|vengeance, that all the things written may be fulfilled.
Luke|21:23|-|Woe to those who are |a|pregnant and to those nursing babies in those days, for there will be great |1|distress upon the land and |b|wrath to this people.
Luke|21:24|-|And they will fall by the edge of the sword and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be |a|trampled by the |1|Gentiles until the times of the |1|Gentiles are |b|fulfilled.
Luke|21:25|-|And there will be signs in the |a|sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth anguish of nations in perplexity at the |b|roaring of the sea and the billows,
Luke|21:26|-|Men |1|fainting from fear and expectation of the things coming upon the |2|inhabited earth, for the powers of the heavens will be |a|shaken.
Luke|21:27|-|And then they will see the |a|Son of Man |b|coming in a cloud with power and great |c|glory.
e. |The disciples' redemption and the overcomers' rapture — vv.|28-36
Luke|21:28|-|And when these things begin to happen, stand erect and lift up your heads, because your |a|redemption is drawing near.
Luke|21:29|-||1|And He told them a parable: Look at the |a|fig tree and all the trees.
Luke|21:30|-|As soon as they sprout leaves, you see it and know of yourselves that the summer is already near.
Luke|21:31|-|So also you, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
Luke|21:32|-|Truly I tell you that |a|this generation shall by no means pass away until all things happen.
Luke|21:33|-|Heaven and earth shall |a|pass away, but My |b|words shall by no means pass away.
Luke|21:34|-|But |a|take heed to yourselves lest perhaps your hearts be weighed down with |1|debauchery and |b|drunkenness and the |c|anxieties of life, and that day come upon you |2|suddenly as a |d|snare.
Luke|21:35|-|For it will come in upon all those |1a|dwelling on the face of all the earth.
Luke|21:36|-|But be |a|watchful at every time, |b|beseeching that you would |1|prevail to |2|escape |3|all these things which are about to happen and |4c|stand before the Son of Man.
2. |Teaching daily in the temple21:37-38
Luke|21:37|-|Now during the day He was in the temple |a|teaching, but during the night He |b|went out and stayed on the mountain called |c|Olivet.
Luke|21:38|-|And all the people would come early in the |a|morning to Him in the temple to hear Him.
