Matt.|17:1|-||a|And after six days Jesus |b|took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and |1|brought them up to a |2c|high mountain privately.
Matt.|17:2|-|And He was |1a|transfigured before them, and His face shone like the |b|sun, and His garments became as |c|white as the light.
Matt.|17:3|-|And behold, |1a|Moses and |b|Elijah appeared to them, conversing with Him.
Matt.|17:4|-|And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You are willing, I will make |1|three |a|tents here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah.
Matt.|17:5|-|While he was still speaking, behold, a bright |a|cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a |b|voice out of the cloud, saying, |1|This is My Son, the |c|Beloved, in whom I have found My delight. |d|Hear |2|Him!
Matt.|17:6|-|And when the disciples |a|heard this, they |b|fell on their face and were greatly frightened.
Matt.|17:7|-|And Jesus came to them and |a|touched them and said, Arise, and do not be afraid.
Matt.|17:8|-|And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw |1|no one except Jesus Himself alone.
Matt.|17:9|-||a|And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the |1|vision to no one until the |b|Son of Man is |c|raised from the dead.
Matt.|17:10|-|And the disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that |1a|Elijah must come first?
Matt.|17:11|-|And He answered and said, |1|Elijah indeed is coming and will |a|restore all things;
Matt.|17:12|-|But I say to you that |1a|Elijah has already come; and they did not recognize him, but |b|did with him the things they wished. So also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.
Matt.|17:13|-|Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them concerning John the Baptist.
d. |The casting out of an epileptic demon17:14-21
Matt.|17:14|-||a|And when they came to the crowd, a man came to Him, falling on his knees before Him and saying,
Matt.|17:15|-|Lord, have mercy on my son, for he |1|has epilepsy and suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire and often into the water.
Matt.|17:16|-|And I brought him to Your disciples, and they were not able to heal him.
Matt.|17:17|-|And Jesus answered and said, O |a|unbelieving and |b|perverted generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.
Matt.|17:18|-|And Jesus |a|rebuked it, and the demon came out from him; and the boy was healed from that hour.
Matt.|17:19|-|Then the disciples, coming to Jesus privately, said, Why were we not able to cast it out?
Matt.|17:20|-|And He said to them, Because of your |a|little faith; for truly I say to you, If you have faith like a |b|mustard seed, you will say to this |c|mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be |d|impossible to you.
Matt.|17:21|-||1|But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
e. |The second unveiling of the crucifixion and resurrection17:22-23
Matt.|17:22|-||a|And while they |1|were gathering together in |b|Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men,
Matt.|17:23|-|And they will |a|kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised. And they were greatly grieved.
f. |The application of the revelation and vision of Christ's sonship17:24-27
Matt.|17:24|-|And when they came to |a|Capernaum, those who take up the |1b|temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your Teacher pay the |1|temple tax?
Matt.|17:25|-|He said, |1|Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus |2|anticipated him, saying, What do you |a|think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or poll tax, from their sons or from strangers?
Matt.|17:26|-|And when he said, From strangers, Jesus said to him, So then the |1|sons are free.
Matt.|17:27|-|But that we do not |a|stumble them, |1|go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up. And when you open its mouth, you will find a |2|stater; take that and |3|give it to them for Me |4|and you.
