Matt.|20:1|-||1|For the kingdom of the heavens is like a |2|man, who is a householder, who went out early in the |3|morning to hire |4|workmen for his |5a|vineyard.
Matt.|20:2|-|And having |1|agreed with the workmen for a |2|denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Matt.|20:3|-|And he went out about the |1|third hour and saw others standing |2|idle in the |3|marketplace,
Matt.|20:4|-|And to those he said, You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went.
Matt.|20:5|-|And again he went out about the |1|sixth and the |2|ninth hour and did likewise.
Matt.|20:6|-|And about the |1|eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and said to them, Why have you been standing here all the day idle?
Matt.|20:7|-|They said to him, Because |1|no one has hired us. He said to them, You |2|also go into the vineyard.
Matt.|20:8|-|And when |1|evening fell, the master of the vineyard said to his steward, Call the workmen and pay them their wages, beginning from the |2|last ones to the first.
Matt.|20:9|-|And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius.
Matt.|20:10|-|And when the |1|first ones came, they supposed that they would receive more. And they themselves also received each a denarius.
Matt.|20:11|-|And when they received it, they murmured against the householder,
Matt.|20:12|-||1|Saying, These last ones worked one hour, and you have made them |2|equal to us who bore the burden of the day and the scorching heat.
Matt.|20:13|-|But he answered |1|one of them and said, |2a|Friend, I am doing nothing unrighteous to you. Did you not |3|agree with me for a denarius?
Matt.|20:14|-||1|Take what is yours and go. I |1|want to give to this last one even as I have given to you.
Matt.|20:15|-|Is it not lawful for me to do what I |1|wish with what is mine? Or is your eye |2|evil because I am |1|good?
Matt.|20:16|-|Thus shall the |1a|last be first and the first last.
3. |On the way to Jerusalem20:17-21:11
a. |The third unveiling of the crucifixion and resurrection20:17-19
Matt.|20:17|-||a|And as Jesus was going up to |b|Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside privately, and on the way He said to them,
Matt.|20:18|-|Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes. And they will condemn Him to |1a|death,
Matt.|20:19|-|And |a|deliver Him to the Gentiles to |b|mock and to scourge and to |c|crucify Him, and on the |d|third day He will be raised.
b. |The throne of the kingdom and the cup of the cross20:20-28
Matt.|20:20|-||a|Then the mother of the |1|sons of |b|Zebedee came to Him with her sons, worshipping and asking something of Him.
Matt.|20:21|-|And He said to her, What do you want? She said to Him, Say that these two sons of mine will |a|sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your kingdom.
Matt.|20:22|-|But Jesus answered and said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to |1|drink the |a|cup which I am about to drink? They said to Him, We are able.
Matt.|20:23|-|He said to them, My cup you shall indeed |a|drink, but to sit on My right and on My left, this is |1|not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.
Matt.|20:24|-|And when the ten heard this, they were indignant concerning the two brothers.
Matt.|20:25|-||a|But Jesus called them to Him and said, You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great exercise authority over them.
Matt.|20:26|-|It shall not be so among you; but whoever wants to become |a|great among you shall be your |1|servant,
Matt.|20:27|-|And whoever wants to be first among you shall be your |1a|slave;
Matt.|20:28|-|Just as the |a|Son of |1|Man did not come to be served, but to |b|serve and to give His |2|life as a |c|ransom for many.
c. |The healing of the two blind men20:29-34
Matt.|20:29|-||a|And as they were going out from Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
Matt.|20:30|-|And behold, two |a|blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, |1b|Son of David!
Matt.|20:31|-|And the crowd |a|rebuked them so that they would be silent, but they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!
Matt.|20:32|-|And Jesus, standing still, called them and said, What do you want Me to do for you?
Matt.|20:33|-|They said to Him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
Matt.|20:34|-|And Jesus, moved with |a|compassion, touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed Him.
