Matt.|22:1|-|And Jesus answered and spoke again in |a|parables to them, saying,
Matt.|22:2|-||a|The |1b|kingdom of the heavens has become like a |2c|king who prepared a |3d|wedding feast for his |2|son.
Matt.|22:3|-|And he sent his |1|slaves to call those who had been called to the wedding feast, yet they would not come.
Matt.|22:4|-|Again, he sent |1|other slaves, saying, Tell those who have been called, Behold, I have prepared my |2|dinner: my |3|oxen and my |3a|fatted cattle have been slain, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast.
Matt.|22:5|-|But they disregarded it and went off, one to his own field and another to his business,
Matt.|22:6|-|And the rest took hold of his slaves, |a|treated them shamefully, and |b|killed them.
Matt.|22:7|-|And the king became angry, and he sent his |1|troops and |a|destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Matt.|22:8|-|Then he said to his slaves, The wedding feast is ready, but those who have been called were |1a|not worthy.
Matt.|22:9|-|Go therefore to the |1|crossroads, and as many as you find, call to the wedding feast.
Matt.|22:10|-|And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both evil and good, and the wedding feast was filled with those reclining at table.
Matt.|22:11|-|But when the king came in to look at those reclining at table, he saw there a man who was not |a|clothed with a |1|wedding garment,
Matt.|22:12|-|And he said to him, |a|Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matt.|22:13|-|Then the king said to the |1|servants, Bind his feet and hands, and |2a|cast him out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be the |3|weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Matt.|22:14|-|For many are |1a|called but few are |1b|chosen.
Matt.|22:15|-||a|Then the |1|Pharisees went and took |b|counsel how they might ensnare Him in His |c|words.
Matt.|22:16|-|And they sent to Him their disciples with the |1a|Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are true and that You teach the way of God in truth and |2|do not fear anyone, for You do not |3|regard the |b|person of men.
Matt.|22:17|-|Tell us therefore, What do You think? |1|Is it lawful to give tribute to |a|Caesar, or not?
Matt.|22:18|-|But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, Why do you |a|tempt Me, |1|hypocrites?
Matt.|22:19|-||1|Show Me the coin for the tribute. And they brought to Him a |2|denarius.
Matt.|22:20|-|And He said to them, Whose is this image and inscription?
Matt.|22:21|-|They said, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Render then the |1|things that are Caesar’s |a|to Caesar and the |2|things that are God’s to God.
Matt.|22:22|-|And when they heard this, they marveled. And they left Him and went away.
Matt.|22:23|-||a|On that day some |1b|Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and questioned Him,
Matt.|22:24|-|Saying, Teacher, Moses said, If anyone dies and does not have children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his |a|wife and raise up seed to his brother.
Matt.|22:25|-|Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first married and died, and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother;
Matt.|22:26|-|Likewise also the second and the third until the seventh.
Matt.|22:27|-|And last of all the woman died.
Matt.|22:28|-|In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.
Matt.|22:29|-|And Jesus answered and said to them, You err, |a|not |1|knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Matt.|22:30|-|For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Matt.|22:31|-|But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not |a|read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Matt.|22:32|-||a|“I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob”? He is not the God of the dead, but of the |1|living.
Matt.|22:33|-|And when the crowds heard this, they were |a|astounded at His teaching.
Matt.|22:34|-||a|But the Pharisees, when they heard that He had muzzled the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
Matt.|22:35|-|And one of them, a |1a|lawyer, asked Him a question, |b|testing Him,
Matt.|22:36|-|Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
Matt.|22:37|-|And He said to him, |a|“You shall |b|love the Lord your God |1|with all your heart and |1|with all your soul and |1|with all your mind.”
Matt.|22:38|-|This is the great and first commandment.
Matt.|22:39|-|And the second is like it: |a|“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matt.|22:40|-|On these |1|two commandments hang all |a|the Law and the Prophets.
Matt.|22:41|-||a|Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
Matt.|22:42|-|Saying, What do you think concerning the |1|Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, |a|David’s.
Matt.|22:43|-|He said to them, How then does David in |1a|spirit call Him Lord, saying,
Matt.|22:44|-||a|“The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies |b|underneath Your feet”?
Matt.|22:45|-|If then David calls Him |1|Lord, how is He his |1|son?
Matt.|22:46|-|And |1a|no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone from that day dare to question Him anymore.
