c. |A parable for watchfulness25:1-13
Matt.|25:1|-|At that time the |1a|kingdom of the heavens will be likened to |2|ten |3b|virgins, who took their |4c|lamps and |5|went forth to |d|meet the |6e|bridegroom.
Matt.|25:2|-|And |1a|five of them were |2b|foolish and |1|five were |c|prudent.
Matt.|25:3|-|For the foolish, when they took their lamps, did not take |1|oil with them;
Matt.|25:4|-|But the prudent took oil in their |1a|vessels with their lamps.
Matt.|25:5|-|And while the bridegroom |a|delayed, they all became |1b|drowsy and |2c|slept.
Matt.|25:6|-|But at |1|midnight there was a |2a|cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Go forth to |3|meet him!
Matt.|25:7|-|Then all those virgins |1a|arose and |2|trimmed their own lamps.
Matt.|25:8|-|And the foolish said to the prudent, |1|Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are |2|going out.
Matt.|25:9|-|But the prudent answered, saying, Perhaps there will |1|not be enough for us and for you; go rather to |2a|those who sell, and |3b|buy for yourselves.
Matt.|25:10|-|And as they were going away to buy, the bridegroom |1a|came; and |2|those who were |3b|ready |4|went in with him to the |5c|wedding feast. And the |6|door was |d|shut.
Matt.|25:11|-|And later the rest of the virgins |1|came also, saying, |a|Lord, lord, open to us!
Matt.|25:12|-|But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I do |1|not know you.
Matt.|25:13|-||1a|Watch therefore, for you do not know the |b|day nor the hour.
d. |A parable for faithfulness25:14-30
Matt.|25:14|-||a|For the |1|kingdom of the heavens is just like a |2|man about to go |2b|abroad, who called his own |3c|slaves and delivered to them |4|his |d|possessions.
Matt.|25:15|-|To one he gave five |1a|talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his |2|own ability. And he went abroad.
Matt.|25:16|-|Immediately he who had received the five talents went and |1|traded with them and |2|gained another five.
Matt.|25:17|-|Similarly, he who had received the two gained another two.
Matt.|25:18|-|But he who had received the |1|one went off and |2|dug in the earth and |3|hid his master’s money.
Matt.|25:19|-|Now after a |1|long time the master of those slaves |2|came and |3a|settled accounts with them.
Matt.|25:20|-|And he who had received the five talents |1|came and brought another five talents, saying, Master, you delivered to me five talents; behold, I have gained |2|another five talents.
Matt.|25:21|-|His master said to him, Well done, good and |a|faithful slave. You were faithful over a |1|few things; I will |b|set you |2|over |3|many things. Enter into the |4c|joy of your master.
Matt.|25:22|-|And he who had received the two talents also came and said, Master, you delivered to me two talents; behold, I have gained another two talents.
Matt.|25:23|-|His master said to him, |1|Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful over a few things; I will |2|set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.
Matt.|25:24|-|Then he who had received the one talent also |1|came and said, Master, I |2|knew about you, that you are a |3|hard man, reaping where you did |4|not sow, and gathering where you did |4|not |5|winnow.
Matt.|25:25|-|And I was |1|afraid and |2|went off and hid your talent in the earth; behold, |3|you have what is yours.
Matt.|25:26|-|And his master answered and said to him, |a|Evil and |b|slothful slave, you knew that |1|I reap where I did not sow and gather where I did not winnow.
Matt.|25:27|-|Therefore you should have |1|deposited my money with the money changers; and when I came, I would have recovered what is mine with |2|interest.
Matt.|25:28|-||1|Take away therefore the talent from him and |2|give it to him who has the ten talents.
Matt.|25:29|-|For |1a|to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.
Matt.|25:30|-|And |1a|cast out the useless slave into the |2|outer darkness. In that place |3|there will be the |4b|weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
3. |Concerning the nations25:31-46
a. |Christ coming to be enthroned in gloryv.|31
Matt.|25:31|-||1|But when the |2a|Son of Man |3b|comes in His |4|glory and all the angels with Him, at that time He will sit on the |5c|throne of His glory.
b. |Gathering all the nations for the exercising of judgment — vv.|32-46
Matt.|25:32|-|And all the |1a|nations will be gathered |b|before Him, and He will separate them from one another, just as the |2c|shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
Matt.|25:33|-|And He will set the sheep on His |1a|right hand and the goats on the left.
Matt.|25:34|-|Then the |a|King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you who are |b|blessed of My Father, |1|inherit the kingdom prepared for you |2c|from the foundation of the world.
Matt.|25:35|-|For I was |1|hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me a |a|drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in,
Matt.|25:36|-|Naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.
Matt.|25:37|-|Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, Lord, when have we seen You hungry and have fed You, or thirsty and have given You a drink?
Matt.|25:38|-|And when have we seen You a stranger and have taken You in, or naked and have clothed You?
Matt.|25:39|-|And when have we seen You sick or in prison and have come to You?
Matt.|25:40|-|And the King will answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have |1|done it to one of |2|these, the |a|least of My |3b|brothers, you have done it to |4c|Me.
Matt.|25:41|-|Then He will say also to those on the left, Go away from Me, you who are cursed, into the |1a|eternal fire |2|prepared for the devil and his |b|angels.
Matt.|25:42|-|For I was hungry and you did not give Me anything to eat; I was thirsty and you did not give Me a drink;
Matt.|25:43|-|I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked and you did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit Me.
Matt.|25:44|-|Then they also will answer, saying, Lord, when have we seen You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to You?
Matt.|25:45|-|Then He will answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you |1|did not do it to one of the least of these, neither have you done it to |a|Me.
Matt.|25:46|-|And these shall go away into eternal |1|punishment, but the |2|righteous |3a|into eternal life.
