c. |To forgive sins9:1-8
Matt.|9:1|-|And stepping into a boat, He crossed over and came to His |1a|own city.
Matt.|9:2|-||a|And behold, they brought to Him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And Jesus, |1|seeing their |b|faith, said to the paralytic, Take |c|courage, child; your |2|sins are |d|forgiven.
Matt.|9:3|-|And behold, some of the |1|scribes said within themselves, This man |2a|blasphemes.
Matt.|9:4|-|And Jesus, |1a|knowing their |2|thoughts, said, Why are you |b|thinking evil things in your hearts?
Matt.|9:5|-|For which is |1|easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, |2|Rise and walk?
Matt.|9:6|-|But that you may know that the |a|Son of Man has |1|authority on earth to |b|forgive sins—then He said to the paralytic, Rise, |2c|take up your bed and |3|go to your house.
Matt.|9:7|-|And he |1|rose and went away to his house.
Matt.|9:8|-|And when the crowds saw this, they |a|feared and |b|glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
4. |Rejoicing with the sinners9:9-13
Matt.|9:9|-||a|And as Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man sitting at the tax office, called |1b|Matthew, and He said to him, |2c|Follow Me. And he rose and |3|followed Him.
Matt.|9:10|-|And as He was reclining at table in the |1|house, behold, many |2a|tax collectors and |b|sinners came and reclined together with Jesus and His disciples.
Matt.|9:11|-|And when the |1|Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, |2|Why does your Teacher eat with the tax collectors and sinners?
Matt.|9:12|-|Now when He heard this, He said, Those who are strong have no need of a |1|physician, but those who are |2|ill.
Matt.|9:13|-|But go and |1|learn what this means, |a|“I desire |2|mercy and not |b|sacrifice,” for I did not come to call the |3c|righteous, but |d|sinners.
5. |Being incompatible with religion9:14-17
Matt.|9:14|-||a|Then the |b|disciples of John came to Him, saying, |1|Why do we and the Pharisees |2c|fast |3|much, but Your |d|disciples do |4|not fast?
Matt.|9:15|-|And Jesus said to them, The |1|sons of the bridechamber cannot mourn as long as the |2a|bridegroom is with them, can they? But |b|days will come when the bridegroom will be |3|taken away from them, and then they will |c|fast.
Matt.|9:16|-|No one puts a patch of |1|unfulled cloth on an |2|old garment, for that which fills it up pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear is made.
Matt.|9:17|-|Neither do they put |1|new wine into |2a|old wineskins; otherwise, the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out, and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into |3b|fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.
6. |Signs with dispensational significance repeated9:18-34
Matt.|9:18|-||1a|As He was speaking these things to them, behold, a |2|ruler came and |b|worshipped Him, saying, My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.
Matt.|9:19|-|And Jesus rose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
Matt.|9:20|-|And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a |1a|hemorrhage for |2|twelve years |3|approached from behind and touched the |4b|fringe of His garment,
Matt.|9:21|-|For she said within herself, If only I |a|touch His garment, |1|I will be |2|healed.
Matt.|9:22|-|And Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, Take |a|courage, daughter; your |b|faith has healed you. And the woman was healed from that hour.
Matt.|9:23|-|And when Jesus came to the ruler’s |1|house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,
Matt.|9:24|-|He said, Depart, for the girl has not died but is |a|sleeping. And they laughed scornfully at Him.
Matt.|9:25|-|But when the |1|crowd had been |a|put out, He entered and |b|took hold of her hand, and the girl |2|rose up.
Matt.|9:26|-|And this |a|report went out into all that land.
Matt.|9:27|-||a|And as Jesus passed on from there, two |1|blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, Have mercy on us, |2b|Son of David!
Matt.|9:28|-|And when He came into the |1|house, the blind men came to Him; and Jesus said to them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said to Him, Yes, Lord.
Matt.|9:29|-|Then He |a|touched their eyes, saying, According to your |b|faith, let it be |c|done to you.
Matt.|9:30|-|And their |1a|eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them saying, |b|See that no one knows!
Matt.|9:31|-|But they went out and |a|spread reports about Him in all that land.
Matt.|9:32|-|And as they were going out, behold, they brought to Him a |1a|dumb man possessed with a demon.
Matt.|9:33|-|And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man |1a|spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, Never has anything like this been |b|seen in Israel.
Matt.|9:34|-|But the Pharisees said, By the |1a|ruler of the demons He casts out the demons.
D. |The enlargement of the ministry9:35-11:1
1. |The need of shepherding and reaping9:35-38
Matt.|9:35|-|And Jesus went about all the cities and the |a|villages, |b|teaching in their synagogues and preaching the |1|gospel of the kingdom and healing |2|every disease and every sickness.
Matt.|9:36|-|And seeing the crowds, He was moved with |a|compassion for them, because they were |1|harassed and cast away like |2b|sheep not having a |2|shepherd.
Matt.|9:37|-|Then He said to His disciples, The |1a|harvest is great, but the workers few;
Matt.|9:38|-|Therefore |1|beseech the |2|Lord of the harvest that He would thrust out |a|workers |3|into His harvest.
