D. |Preparing the disciples for His death13:1-14:42
1. |Telling them the things to come13:1-37
Mark|13:1|-||1|And as He was going out of the |a|temple, |2|one of His disciples said to Him, Teacher, behold, |3|what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!
Mark|13:2|-|And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? |1|There shall by no means be left here a |a|stone upon a stone which shall not be thrown down.
Mark|13:3|-||1|And as He sat on the |a|Mount of Olives opposite the temple, |b|Peter and |c|James and John and |d|Andrew |e|asked Him privately,
Mark|13:4|-|Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign |a|when all these things are about to be accomplished?
Mark|13:5|-|And Jesus began to say to them, |a|See that no one |b|leads you astray.
Mark|13:6|-|Many will come in My |a|name, saying, I am the Christ! and will lead many astray.
Mark|13:7|-|And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be |a|alarmed; it must happen, but the |b|end is not yet.
Mark|13:8|-|For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be |a|earthquakes in various places; there will be |b|famines. These things are the beginning of birth pangs.
Mark|13:9|-||1|But you, take heed to yourselves. They will |a|deliver you to |b|sanhedrins, and in the synagogues you will be |c|beaten, and before |2|governors and |d|kings you will stand for My sake, for a testimony to them.
Mark|13:10|-|Yet the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the |a|nations.
Mark|13:11|-|And when they lead you away and deliver you up, do not be |a|anxious beforehand about what you should speak|1|, but |b|whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who are speaking, but the Holy |c|Spirit.
Mark|13:12|-|And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a |a|father his child; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.
Mark|13:13|-|And you will be hated by all on account of My |a|name. But he who has |b|endured to the end, this one shall be saved.
Mark|13:14|-||1|But when you |a|see the abomination of |b|desolation|2| standing |3|where it should not (let him who reads understand), then let those in |c|Judea flee to the mountains;
Mark|13:15|-|And let him who is on the |a|housetop not come down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house;
Mark|13:16|-|And let him who is in the field not turn back to take his garment.
Mark|13:17|-|But woe to those who are |a|pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days.
Mark|13:18|-|And pray that |1|it may not happen in winter,
Mark|13:19|-|For those days will be a time of |a|tribulation such as has |b|not occurred from the |c|beginning of the creation which God created until now, nor shall by any means ever occur.
Mark|13:20|-|And unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the |a|chosen, whom He chose, He |b|shortened the days.
Mark|13:21|-|And then if anyone says to you, Behold, |a|here is the Christ! Behold, there! do not believe it.
Mark|13:22|-|For false Christs and |a|false prophets will arise and will |1|show |b|signs and wonders to |c|deceive, if possible, the chosen.
Mark|13:23|-|But you, |a|beware; |1|I have told you all things |b|beforehand.
Mark|13:24|-|But in those |a|days, |b|after that |c|tribulation, the sun will be |d|darkened, and the moon will not give its light,
Mark|13:25|-|And the stars will be |a|falling out of heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
Mark|13:26|-|And then they will see the |a|Son of Man |b|coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
Mark|13:27|-|And then He will send the angels, and He will |a|gather together His chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven.
Mark|13:28|-||1|But learn the parable from the |a|fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and puts forth its |b|leaves, you know that the summer is near.
Mark|13:29|-|So also you, when you see these things happening, know that |1|it is near, |a|at the doors.
Mark|13:30|-|Truly I say to you that this generation shall by no means pass away until all these things happen.
Mark|13:31|-|Heaven and earth will |a|pass away, but My |b|words shall by no means pass away.
Mark|13:32|-|But concerning that |a|day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the |b|Father.
Mark|13:33|-||a|Beware, be |b|alert|1|; for you do not know when the time is.
Mark|13:34|-|It is like a man who is about to go |a|abroad, having left his house and given to his slaves authority, to each his work, and who commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Mark|13:35|-||a|Watch therefore, for you do not know when the Master of the house comes, whether in the |1|evening or at midnight or at cockcrowing or in the morning;
Mark|13:36|-|Lest He come suddenly and find you |a|sleeping.
Mark|13:37|-|And what I say to you, I say to all: |a|Watch!
