2. |Being conspired against, betrayed, and loved14:1-11
Mark|14:1|-||1|Now the |a|Passover and the Feast of |b|Unleavened Bread were |c|two days away. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking a way to |d|seize Him by craftiness and |e|kill Him,
Mark|14:2|-|For they said, Not at the feast, lest there be a |a|tumult by the people.
Mark|14:3|-||1|And while He was in |a|Bethany in the |b|house of Simon the |c|leper, as He reclined at table, a woman came, having an alabaster flask of ointment, of very costly pure nard, and she broke the alabaster flask and poured it over His head.
Mark|14:4|-|But there were some who were indignantly commenting among themselves: Why has this waste of the ointment |1|been made?
Mark|14:5|-|For this ointment could have been sold for over |a|three hundred |1|denarii and given to the |b|poor. And they were infuriated with her.
Mark|14:6|-|But Jesus said, Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a noble deed on Me.
Mark|14:7|-|For you always have the |a|poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you do not always have |1|Me.
Mark|14:8|-||1|She has done what she could; she has |2|anointed My body beforehand for the |a|burial.
Mark|14:9|-|And truly I say to you, Wherever the gospel is |1|proclaimed in the whole |a|world, what this woman has done shall also be told as a |b|memorial of her.
Mark|14:10|-|And |a|Judas Iscariot, one of the |b|twelve, went off to the chief priests to |c|deliver Him up to them.
Mark|14:11|-|And when they heard this, they rejoiced and promised to give him |1|money. And he sought a way to |2|deliver Him up opportunely.
3. |Instituting His supper14:12-26
Mark|14:12|-|And on the first day of the |1|Feast of |a|Unleavened Bread, when they |2|sacrificed the |b|passover, His disciples said to Him, Where do You want us to go and prepare so that You may eat the passover?
Mark|14:13|-|And He |a|sent two of His disciples and said to them, Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him;
Mark|14:14|-|And wherever he enters, say to the |1|master of the house, The |a|Teacher says, Where is My guest room, where I may eat the |b|passover with My disciples?
Mark|14:15|-|And he will show you a large |a|upper room, furnished and ready. And there prepare for us.
Mark|14:16|-|And the disciples went out and came into the city and found it even as He had told them, and they prepared the passover.
Mark|14:17|-|And when |a|evening fell, He came with the twelve.
Mark|14:18|-|And as they were reclining at table and |1|eating, Jesus said, Truly I say to you that |2|one of you will |a|betray Me, one who is |b|eating with Me.
Mark|14:19|-|They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, Surely not I? |1|
Mark|14:20|-|And He said to them, It will be one of the twelve, |1|one who dips with Me in the dish.
Mark|14:21|-|For the Son of Man is |1|going away, even as it is |a|written concerning Him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.
Mark|14:22|-||1|And as they were |2|eating, He took |a|bread and |b|blessed it, and He broke it and gave it to them, and said, Take; this is My |c|body.
Mark|14:23|-|And He took a cup and gave thanks, and He gave it to them; and they all drank of it.
Mark|14:24|-|And He said to them, This is My |a|blood of the |1|covenant, which is being poured out for |b|many.
Mark|14:25|-|Truly I say to you, I shall by no means drink of the |1|product of the vine anymore until that day when I drink it new in the |a|kingdom of God.
Mark|14:26|-|And after |a|singing a hymn, they went out to the |b|Mount of Olives.
4. |Warning the disciples14:27-31
Mark|14:27|-|And Jesus said to them, You will all be |a|stumbled|1|, because it is written, “I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep will be |b|scattered.”
Mark|14:28|-|But after I have been raised, I will go before you into |a|Galilee.
Mark|14:29|-|But Peter said to Him, Even if all will be stumbled, yet I will not!
Mark|14:30|-|And Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you that today in this night, before a |a|rooster crows twice, you will |1|deny Me three times.
Mark|14:31|-|But he went on speaking more intensely, Even if I must |a|die with You, I will by no means deny You! And they all said similarly.
5. |Experiencing Gethsemane—charging the disciples to watch and pray14:32-42
Mark|14:32|-||1|And they came to a place named Gethsemane, and He |a|said to His disciples, Sit here while I pray.
Mark|14:33|-|And He took |a|Peter and James and John with Him and began to be |1|awestruck and deeply distressed.
Mark|14:34|-|And He said to them, My soul is exceedingly |a|sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and |b|watch.
Mark|14:35|-|And going forward a little, He fell on the ground and |a|prayed that, if it were possible, the |1b|hour would pass from Him.
Mark|14:36|-|And He said, |a|Abba Father, all things are |b|possible to You; remove this |c|cup from Me; yet not what I |d|will, but what |1|You will.
Mark|14:37|-|And He came and found them sleeping. And He said to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not able to watch for one hour?
Mark|14:38|-||a|Watch and |b|pray that you may not come into |c|temptation. The |d|spirit is willing, but the |e|flesh is weak.
Mark|14:39|-|And going away again, He prayed, saying the same thing.
Mark|14:40|-|And coming again, He found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy. And they did |a|not know what to answer Him.
Mark|14:41|-|And He came the third time and said to them, Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough. The |a|hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being |b|delivered into the hands of sinners.
Mark|14:42|-|Arise, let us be going. Behold, the one betraying Me has drawn near.

IV. |The death and resurrection of the Slave-Savior for the accomplishing of God's redemption14:43-16:18

A. |His death14:43-15:47
1. |Arrested14:43-52
Mark|14:43|-|And |a|immediately, while He was still |b|speaking, |c|Judas, one of the twelve, appeared, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
Mark|14:44|-|Now the one who was |a|betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, Whomever I kiss, He is the one. Seize Him and lead Him away securely.
Mark|14:45|-|And when he came, he |a|immediately approached Him and said, |b|Rabbi! and |c|kissed Him affectionately.
Mark|14:46|-|And they laid hands on Him and |a|seized Him.
Mark|14:47|-|But a certain |1|one of those standing by drew his |a|sword and struck the slave of the high priest, and took off his ear.
Mark|14:48|-|And Jesus answered and said to them, Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to arrest Me?
Mark|14:49|-|Day after day I was with you in the |1|temple |2a|teaching and you did not seize Me. But may the |b|Scriptures be |c|fulfilled.
Mark|14:50|-|And they all |a|left Him and fled.
Mark|14:51|-|And a certain young man was accompanying Him, clothed with a linen cloth over his naked body; and they seized him.
Mark|14:52|-|But he left the linen cloth behind and fled naked.
2. |Judged14:53-15:15
a. |By the Jewish leaders, representing the Jews14:53-72
Mark|14:53|-||1|And they |2a|led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together.
Mark|14:54|-|And Peter |a|followed Him at a distance until he was within the |b|courtyard of the high priest. And he was there sitting with the |c|attendants and warming himself in the light of the fire.
Mark|14:55|-|Now the chief priests and the whole |1a|Sanhedrin were seeking testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death, and they could not find it.
Mark|14:56|-|For many gave |a|false testimony against Him, yet the testimonies were not consistent.
Mark|14:57|-|And |a|some stood up and testified falsely against Him, saying,
Mark|14:58|-|We heard Him say, I will |a|destroy this temple made with |b|hands, and |1|in three days I will build another made without hands.
Mark|14:59|-|And neither in this regard was their testimony consistent.
Mark|14:60|-|And the high priest stood up in the midst and questioned Jesus, saying, Do You not answer anything? What is this that these testify against You?
Mark|14:61|-|But He was silent and did not answer |a|anything. Again the high priest questioned Him and said to Him, Are |b|You the |c|Christ, the Son of the |1d|Blessed?
Mark|14:62|-|And Jesus said, |1|I am. And you shall see the |a|Son of Man sitting at the |b|right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.
Mark|14:63|-|And the high priest, |a|tearing his |1|garments, said, What further need do we have of witnesses?
Mark|14:64|-|You heard the |1a|blasphemy! How does it appear to you? And they all condemned Him as being worthy of |b|death.
Mark|14:65|-|And some began to |1a|spit at Him and to |b|blindfold His face and to |c|beat Him with their fists and to say to Him, |2|Prophesy! And the attendants, |3d|slapping Him about, took Him.
Mark|14:66|-||1|And while Peter was below in the |a|courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came,
Mark|14:67|-|And seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, You also were with the |a|Nazarene, Jesus.
Mark|14:68|-|But he denied it, saying, I neither know nor understand what you are talking about. And he went outside into the forecourt, and a rooster crowed.
Mark|14:69|-|And the servant girl, seeing him, began again to say to those standing by, This man is one of them!
Mark|14:70|-|But again he denied it. And after a little while, those standing by again said to Peter, Surely you are one of them, for you are a |a|Galilean as well|1|.
Mark|14:71|-|But he began to |1|curse and to swear, I do not know this man of whom you speak!
Mark|14:72|-|And |a|immediately a |b|rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered the word, how Jesus had said to him, Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times. And thinking upon it, he wept.
