| God had brought the children of Israel to the border of the good land, and they could have easily crossed the border and entered into the land. But God knew their heart, and He purposely gave the word to send out the twelve spies to spy out the land (vv. 1-2) in order to test them (Deut. 8:2). This test exposed them to the uttermost. The entire history of the children of Israel, including the failures recorded in chs. 1114, was written for the admonition of the New Testament believers (1|Cor. 10:1-13).
